Orlando area in late September

Looking for a little input on an late September trip... The plan was is: 3 days with 1 round at each of the reunion courses, 3 days with 1 round at each of the Streamsong courses, and ending with a round at Bay Hill.  My questions are:

1) How are course conditions around late September?

2) Cheaper/better accommodations are available outside of reunion (but would then prevent reunion play)... Are there three other courses that would be better than the reunion courses (around the same area)??

 

Any comments/input would be great

 Conditions will be fine in late September

 

Three courses very close to Reunion that I'd rather play would be (i) Southern Dunes, (ii) Championsgate Country Club, and (iii) Championsgate International. 

 

Southern Dunes would top my list as a "must play". Other nearby solid picks in lieu of Championsgate  would be  Grand Cypress Links, Tranquillo, or Waldorf Astoria. If you are willing to drive a little farther, consider Orange County National Panther Lake. Play Southern Dunes and any two of the other six and you will have three rounds as good or better than the three Reunion courses.

1.  Typically courses in the area aerate the week of Labor Day.  August and September are usually the months with the highest humidity.  It also tends to rain there those months almost every day, very hard, around 2-5pm for about 30-minutes to 1-hour.

 

So what can happen with the increased humidity is that the courses can get super-soft and almost unplayable at times.

 

 

2.  Reunion courses and their accomodations are pretty good.  Southern Dunes, ChampionsGate CC (not the resort, the country club), Waldorf, Ritz Carlton are easily on par, if not better, than Reunion.  Hell, you can make a 45 minute trip to Lakeland and play Eaglebrooke and between the massive drop in greens fees and the excellent design you and your buddies will come away satisfied.  Celebration is also pretty good.  I will say that Reunion is probably the safe bet when it comes to course conditions.
