NW Atlanta Suburbs - Private Club Recs

Currently live in the Marrietta/Kennesaw/Acworth area, and proximity to the club is a key factor for me.  Looking to join a moderately priced private club (no Atlanta CC, Marietta CC or Ansley Settindown), and would like some insights into the general club vibe (golf focused? family focused? other amenities? # of members, etc.) and approximate initiation & monthly dues for a few options:

- Indian Hills

- Pinetree

- Governors Towne Club

 

I plan on arranging visits to each club, but sometimes it's difficult to get a good assessment from one visit.  Appreciate any insights.

I was a member of Pinetree, I am currently a member at Indian Hills, and know some folks at Governors.  I think all are at least 10k initiation and somewhere between 475 and 575 a month.

 

Indian Hills has a waiting list of over 1 year.  Amazing for a family, 27 holes, great amenities.  Great MGA, they do a great job of being focused on golf and family.  During the last three years the golf course has been in better condition than it has ever been, getting close to Pinetree and as good as Governors.  Pool area is amazing, amazing tennis facilities.  Owned by a company and run like club corp, however they do put A LOT of money back into the course.  Late last year re did the cart paths to concrete on 18 of the 27 holes.  

 

Pinetree has a waiting list, but not sure how long.  Best conditions and just barely best layout of the three.  Amenities are not great outside of golf.  Great membership, multiple Georgia Amateur players of the year are members.  Srixon/Cleveland PGA Tour rep is a member and you will see players during the offseason out there from time to time.  The MGA is amazing.  Their tournaments are some of the best run and different formats of anywhere I have ever played.  100% a member owned and run club.  I have heard from numerous folks that they will be shutting down the greens and completely re-doing them in the near future.

 

Governors is a good layout, but their greens suffer or at least did in the summer.  Not sure about wait list.  Know nothing about amenities or how good their membership is.  They were semi private for quite some time and only became fully private just before the downturn.  Owned by one individual run similarly to a Club Corp facility, I have heard some complaints about him, but nothing I can be sure about.

Governors still does member for a day so it is open to the public at times. Just something to keep in mind. Buddy I work with plays it some. Was just in a tournament this past Monday and said it wasn’t in typical condition. I’ve always heard it’s a pretty nice course but just wanted to point that out. 
 

Like you said , plan a visit and tour the facilities first.

I love The Farm.  Great facility and it's basically a suburb of Atlanta at this point.  Probably quicker for you to get to The Farm than Truist Park for a Braves game.
