Matt, Axis1 claims the COG is in the center of the face.  I cannot measure this, but suspect that it may not be.  Again this is based solely on me hitting putts with impact spray applied and then looking at the strike location and relating the "feel" of the strike to the location on the face.

Has anyone else tried this?  I'm very curious.

I'm not sure that analysis is correct. If the axis 1 has the cg in the heel it would still rest toe up.  Which way are you suggesting it would stabilize?

No it wouldn’t sit at 12:00 and spin around the axis of the shaft the way it does.

Headweight is 355g.

Thanks, that matches what I’ve seen too.  That normally would be fine for me.  I wonder if it’s the apparent flexibility of the shaft that I’m noticing.

How do you figure?  The club spins then lands with the toe straight up.

Again, have you sprayed the face with impact spray and then hit a few putts?  Where does the club feel the most "solid"?

You video by the company doesn't really mean anything. They don't do this test the way I suggest. A robot isn't hitting the putt a person is.

Do you listen to what they say in the video? BALL SPEED is consistent throughout the entire face. That's virtually impossible without the CG placement being on the CENTER of the striking face on a milled face putter or changing materials...IE Grooves or Multi-rebound inserts. If you were testing using any type of instrument that's measures smash factor you'd realize that. Here's another example below of where the CG placement is.

After reading through this thread, I decided to go try a few Axis 1 putters out at my local GG. Unfortunately wasn’t a match for me. Felt unstable to me. Wanted to love it but just wasn’t meshing. I did end up walking out with a Phantom 5S though. Might be a center shaft guy now.

Greetings fellow snowman.

The torque balanced putters definitely swing/feel different than any face balanced or toe hang putter.   It can feel weird switching either to or from one.  Once I got used to it, it really feels better for me.  It's too bad they are all so expensive to buy and try.

My budget one is the Odyssey Toe Up 1, bought used on eBay.   I think it is a good starter model for trying this concept.

At a full swing lesson, the instructor tried my Rose putter.  He blew the putt past the hole and said, “This thing is a rocket!”

That is my experience too.  Of course you (mostly) get used to it, but for whatever reason the ball comes off hot.  I think it has to be the shaft, because the feel is very soft and flexy.  This feel is more noticeable on long putts.

I’m going to try a different putter for a while and see if I can improve my distance control.

I tried a lab once and couldn't get it to work for me, also got a rose but i push the putts so often. But for those looking for something similar I recently got a odyssey tri-hot center shafted triple wide that feels very cloes to a lab putter, all the weight is up front and when you balance it to see the toe hang it rotates very easily like a lab, but ends up face balanced, this thing has been magical for me so far, and it also helps that with all the tungsten in the heel and toe it's so forgiving

Just purchased a barely used Axis Rose putter but it came with a SuperStroke Zenergy grip.  I had rolled the Axis Rose in Golf Galaxy with their grip and I must say the SuperStroke makes the putter feel awful to me.  I am going to switch it out to the lampkin paddle to see if it feels better to me.

I've been a long time user of one of the original Axis1 models - The Joey. I've tinkered with the DF 2.1 (and Mezz) in shops before.  I am a FIRM believer in the technology but find one primary difference that makes me prefer the Axis.

With the shaft forward design, I find it harder to align putts and find my line. Definitely would be a steeper learning curve. The first time I ever set down an Axis putter, the stability and love affair was IMMEDIATE. No learning curve.  Just immediate feel of stability and comfort.  Everyone's results may vary, but anyone that is looking for technology to improve their putting, the technology is there in the Axis putters.  It. Just. WORKS!
