Fiberbuilt grass question

I see lots of feedback about the grass being hard to tell if you hit it fat or not, I was wondering is it really that hard to tell? If its like fluffy rough grass and i hit it a hair fat and I can't tell at all I do think that would make it a dealbreaker for me.

I don't have enough time on a Fiberbuilt mat to give you a firsthand answer. What I can do is recommend you look into a divot action mat. Gung Ho Golf makes one called the "Holy Grail". But I took a crack at making my own. Absolutely love it and won't look back. 

 

Have had my DIY one for about a year now. Built it with some Synlawn turf I ordered through Lowes. Maybe not the highest end stuff, but sourcing a small amount of turf is the hardest part of a DIY build. In spite of not being the most premium turf, I have thousands upon thousands of balls through it. And it looks and feels as new as it did on day one. And I have enough left over to make another 3 or 4 hitting strips. 

I've hit off of just about every mat out there, and a divot action mat is the way to go. Easy on the body. Best feeling next to real turf. Fat shots actually feel fat (but don't hurt). And the associated data from my LM aligns with what I'd expect from that type of shot out on the course. 

While the bad shots feel the most spot on with this mat, where it really stands out is on shots hit well. Which is absolutely outstanding. I really can't describe how realistic this type of mat feels. 

 

If you do go the DIY route, a key point is to make sure you use the best adhesive you can find to secure the turf to the polycarbonate. And it also doesn't hurt to sand the PC first to aid in adhesion. I used Liquid Nails Fuze-It Max. It's not cheap. But I've seen others who tried saving a few bucks on adhesive end up regretting that decision.

I've got a Fiberbuilt and can tell when I hit a fat shot every time.  Its also really easy to see in the data, normal clubhead speed, low smash and low ballspeed.  The penalty is less in the sim than in real life.  I lose 10 to 20 yds carry on a fat shot in the sim and much worse on the course ofc.

I personally can tell when I hit it fat but it doesn't have quite the same feel as hitting a fat shot on grass. In my opinion, it's for the better with respect to impact on the wrists/joints.

I have elbow issues, and looking to put in a simulator.  Is the Gungho Holy Grail the most gentle mat for impact for someone with tendonitis issues?

Don't have tendonitis or elbow issues. But I'd say "yes" to your question, based on personal experience hitting off just about every mat out there. It's a nice bonus that you can build one yourself if so inclined.

My experience is with the grass series - 3ft strip. Would be curious to hear opinion of others who have used all three!
