Things to do near Brevard, NC with a couple tweens?

Thinking about going there with the family and wondering if you know of anything we should look into doing while we're there.

We're planning on doing some hiking and checking out the waterfalls, and my daughter wants to go to the gem mine.  We might do an indoor rock wall park that's nearby, and there's a small chance I might bring the sticks to play a round.  What else should we look into?  Zip line?  Trout fishing?  I don't expect there to be any whitewater rafting, right?

We were just there a couple of weeks ago. It’s a beautiful area.

I would highly recommend using one of your days to see Chimney Rock State Park. It’s about an hours drive from Brevard, but it’s well worth it. The views from the top are incredible, and the waterfall from “Last of the Mohicans”is there too. It’s magnificent. The Lake Lure Inn is about five minutes away. It was the setting for “Dirty Dancing.”

On the way back to Brevard, stop in Hendersonville and tour the downtown area. Plenty of restaurants and cute shops. Something for everyone. Postero   Is one of the best restaurants anywhere, but I don’t know if I’d spend that kind of money on tweeners.

Make sure to spend time in downtown Brevard. Charming! Don’t miss the White Squirrel shop, Mayberry’s diner, or O.P. Taylor’s toy shop. 

I haven’t played golf in the area, but I plan on playing Connestee Falls on our next trip. It looks like a pretty nice semi private course. 
 

The best waterfall in the area is Whitewater Falls. It’s about 45 minutes south west of Brevard, but it’s the most impressive waterfall I’ve seen.

Agree with everything that @dukeman said as well.  I grew up in that area and most of your options are going to be outdoors as far as entertainment go.  The waterfalls and hiking are  great options.  Depending on time of year/weather swimming/tubing in Pisgah National is a good time.  Fishing is good in the area, but you really need to know where to go in the area (game wardens are pretty strict).  Lots of good breweries in the area if you're into that. Connestee Falls is where I would play if I were you, I've played there since I was in middle school and its always enjoyable with the wildlife and views.

Checkout the schedule at the Flat Rock playhouse.  Catch a show there. It’s a very cozy little theatre that’s very well known here.
