Double-bend versus Single-bend

Is there anything inherently different in terms of performance, or mechanics, of a double-bend putter versus a single-bend? Or is it strictly personal preference?

Scotty Cameron only offers single-bends for retail, but most SC staffers on Tour seem to use a double-bend (Zalatoris, Poulter, Cantlay, and Fowler are just a few that come to mind). Obviously a lot of guys on Tour use a single-bend, but it seems most opt for the double-bend. I’m curious if there’s a reason for this

I personally prefer the double-bend, but i’m not sure if that’s because I’m simply more familiar with it

I can't speak definitively on the topic but I can tell you my experience. I had a double bend Odyssey wide blade and I could not get used to it. It always made the putter face (white against a black putter) viewable which made the putter look closed to me. It just looked like I was "scooping" the ball instead of it hitting it. The double bend also made face-balanced which I ended up not preferring. To me, the single bend shaft is a replacement for a plumbers neck. You get the one shaft of offset, it allows you to set up your hands with a little shaft lean at address, some toe hang, and it is a very clean sight picture at address. I mention the address viewing angle because its is reported that to some guys, a plumber's neck makes the face look closed to them. I had an original Evnroll ER2 with a single bend neck and it was very attractive and easy to align (to me at least). I couldn't get used to that random "ting" of that putter on some of my putts though.

Different look down at address. Double bend should be fully face balanced where the Scotty single bends have a little toe hang.

Is the slight toe-hang (and I mean VERY slight, probably like 5-8degrees in my Phantom x11) inherent with ALL single-bends from different OEM’s, or is that just something Scotty does?

Double-bends can have some toe hang too (Odyssey 11, Toulon Chicago, the new TriHot5k double-wide, etc.)

I don’t think it’s with all brands, but yes on Scotties as far as I know

There is no hard and fast rule to each because of how and where the shaft is bent and also the angle of the post the shaft connects to plays a factor.

Also a lot of brands will have shafts ordered to different specs look at the Scotty Phantom line as the best example.

Another is offset pretty much all double bends I see are full offset and single bend are anywhere from 0-1 offset.

Single bend will also get a bit more toe hang.

I know scotty offers a low-bend for more toe hang in models like the X11.5. But any idea if the single-bend (aka high-bend) is the same as, say, a KBS single bend? Like if i managed to find and install a KBS single-bend with the proper tip size into my Phantom x11, would it result in the same ~8degrees or so of toe hang?

Mainly just wondering if there’s any difference between scottys high-bend sb shafts, and other single-bends like KBS’

If where the bend lines up is the same then it could, but also the Scotty shaft could be proprietary which isn't uncommon to Scotty.

Yeah i wish the shaft specs weren’t impossible to find. It’d be nice to know how much the shaft weighs because it feels a touch light

Whatever shaft is in the Phantom mallets it feels way to whippy for me and I prefer a softer putter shaft.

I’m not a huge fan of the shaft either. Idk if it’s whippy, too light, or what. I’d like to swap it out, but of course SC makes it difficult to do so with weird tip sizes

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
