Looking for some info on this Ping Putter I just picked up...

In my bag, I keep a Scotty Cameron Newport for regular play, but I'm a sucker for something unusual or old to mess around with. Today, I found this Ping N 35th Anniversary putter, which caught my eye because the shape is very reminiscent of the Ping 1A, a putter that I've sought after for quite some time, but don't want to spend the cash on. This example came without the head cover, and a brand new Ping putter grip that I paid to have installed. Out the door price with new grip was a small fraction of the asking prices on eBay (apparently? I looked later and was a little surprised...). 

 

I guess the question is, what's the story of this model? I've never seen one before, nor heard anything about it. I love the classic "ping" sound it makes, and that's about all I know about it. Thanks!

Hopefully you can read the text in the photo. It’s an excerpt from the Ping book: And the Putter Went Ping (p. 325).

Your putter is a 1994 version of the 1A but in stainless steel. 

Your putter is one of 8000 made if it has a serial number. 
I think they sold for about $250 in 1995 (per a Google search).
I don’t know if these are collectible today. (I’m not a collector). 

They also made a non serialized version without commemorative stamping.

Thank you for this! This was exactly what I was hoping somebody could provide! I'm not much of a collector of golf equipment, but some of the club and putter designs out there really intrigue me. I might just have to pick up a copy of that book.

Yeah that book is kind of a vanity project for the Solheims but it has a lot of information in it. 
I’d never even heard of your putter and I’ve had various Pings since the 1980s. Cool find!
