Feel vs. Real: Does it translate into a good swing?

When you try to overexaggerate a swing feel, does it translate well for you into the real swing? This is another one of the tropes of instruction I want to hear about from members' experiences.

 

When working on a swing correction or a drill, exaggeration is key. However, when working on a consistent swing in up the bag, it does not work. For me, the feel of a wedge is far different from the feel of an 8 iron, 5 iron, or wood. I actively try to create different feels for different clubs because if I try to create the same feel or same position for every club, the results are not ideal.

 

When you stripe it throughout the bag, are you actively seeking a different feel in the top of the swing and delivery, or are you trying to be a robot throughout the bag? I know Jack advocates a one-swing, robot mentality.

Two issues.

 

1.  As long as you video yourself and you aren’t actually exaggerating when you hit a ball.

2.  That you’re actually addressing the root cause of the problem.

And yes, the exaggeration works if it's the right move and once you've done it for a month, minimum. 

 

The key is to do the exaggeration on the range and then go play without the exaggeration. The exaggeration takes time to show up on the course.

For example, I have been working on a move to eliminate a lateral slide. I exaggerate a move over and over in practice. Then on course, everything is the same feeling as before...preshot routine is the same, swing thought is the same. I want the same swing with my fix showing up rather than being forced. 

 

That's where you learn how the change has changed your miss.
