Repair Jones Trouper 2.0 Bag

I have a Jones Trouper 2.0 and late last season, a creature ate a small hole in the side pocket to get at a bag of almonds I had left there. I tried to cover it with some peel and stick patches meant for tent/backpack repairs that I bought at a camping supply store, but they just peel right off after a few hours. I also took it to one tailor shop this winter to see if they could sew on a patch but the guy said he didn't have the right machine to sew the material the bag is made of.

 

Has anyone had to patch a hole in one of these bags and can offer any advice?

What tent repair tape did you use? I would seen if Gear Aid tenacious tape and use it on both sides of the hole would work. Also maybe iron on fabric repair patches might work but I have used the tenacious tape on nylon, polu and canvas they all still holding even through washing.

That's exactly what I tried. I used clear Tenacious Tape on both sides. After the first attempt peeled off, I tried cutting a few different sizes to see if that would improve things, but none of them would stay in place. I might try an iron on patch next or maybe try the tape again with some seam grip.

might want to try their cloth tapes.

that clear stuff is not exactly the same base material, and the cloth (colored) tapes may give you a better result.

 

alternatives are the heat activated type - once properly bonded they'll likely never come off. 

depends on the position of the hole and if you can an iron to set the patch.

if you have a canvas bag - this could resolve your issue.

I've done some one and two-sided heat patch repairs that stayed on heavy cloth.

 

as to a sewn repair - you need a luggage or shoe repair store .

they have machines that will pierce tough materials - i.e. leather.
