Humbly looking for guidance

Recommended Posts

As a PGA professional, it’s embarrassing to ask for help with my own swing. However, my body is unbelievably stubborn, and nothing I’ve tried on my own has stuck.

Had lead leg ACL reconstruction in January, so the fact that I can swing at all right now is a bonus. That being said, this is a problem I have fought my entire career.

I have always played with a narrow stance and have always been pretty handsy. Looking at it on video makes me realize how bad it is. I can not seem to reduce my wrist angle at the top, which increases even further into transition. This inevitably causes the club to get behind me, creating a steep angle and a flip at the bottom. The body stops rotating to let the club catch up.

Apologies for the poor angle. Took this quick the first day I could swing this spring.

If anyone has had success overcoming a similar issue, please share your experience. I’m getting desperate at this point 🤣

They narrow stance isn't too bad if you don't lose your balance. I actually prefer a narrow stance on short clubs. The only problem with it is that you have no right knee flex. Makes it difficult to get any hip depth or speed. You also lift in the backswing, which without any knee flex and your heavy wrist set mean you can't lower and will have to flip at impact to reach the ball.

What's the problem exactly with your game? If you have a two way miss and are looking to fix it, I recommend a shorter backswing, a kind of sit move in the backswing, and less wrist hinge.

For the downswing, it seems like your feel to start transition is to pull the club down, which is why you have that incredible lag. That's too much. I would work on an early release and late rotation. Get that club wider and not so narrow in transition.

It's an honor to try and help a PGA professional in this forum. 🙂
