Loss of Connection

Recommended Posts

Loss of connection. At least that's what I think it's called. Especially with the driver. Saw an instructor last week. I'm told that my arms are falling behind my hips and chest so if I let the club release, I get the big slice, if my brain takes over trying to save the face, I get the big snap hook.

He's given me some tips but I just can't seem to get the feel. Has anyone used the Izzo Smooth Swing trainer with driver and found success? It seems like a simple tool that makes sense.

Passive arms are OK with the right swing if you have structure.  Active arms/shoulders are also OK with the right swing.  For structure, use your pecs lats and right triceps to push your hands away.  This is an acquired skill you will make automatic over time, must become as natural as breathing.  If you ever forget to do it after having learned it you will make the worst swings in your life.

There is no trainer, idea is basic, application complex and learned by feel and results.

Truly passive arms are almost never okay with a full swing (and this is one of those times I'm tempted to leave out the "almost"). Feel ain't real. No good player has truly "passive" arms on a full swing hitting it some distance.

FWIW I'm including the shoulder muscles in this as they move the arms, but I don't even really need to do that, as your biceps/triceps will do some of this as well).

Anyway, to the OP…

What do you think of this drill?

We have Nicklaus, Woods are Rose.  The 2 greatest players and objectively measured one of the most efficient swings ever telling us get left, stay closed, get the arms linked up and release asap.  WTF aren’t we listening.

The voice of reason which most people will choose not to listen to. I guess they would rather be 18 handicappers. Lol. Always great advice as usual from Monte.

For those not technically versed (Me), what does this mean/look like?

It just means the arms starting on time and not late.  It will FEEL like they move first.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
