My Spider Tour Insert

Had an original spider tour and wondering if anyone has ordered a my Spider from TM recently and if they have the original inserts that came with the OG spider tours when they were released? I saw the spec sheet and it said aluminum pure roll; is the insert in the new version different than the original releases? I had the black one years ago and liked the feel, but don't love the feel of the newer spider inserts that are more harsh. Thanks for the help.

Some of the inserts are aluminum so they can anodize them to get certain colors. The others are the standard surlyn material, but TM doesn't list which insert is surlyn or which is aluminum so bit of a guessing game.

As I recall the original Spiders were Red/Black (Jason Day) and Black/Grey (Dustin Johnson). Both inserts were a plastic-y type material.

 

JD's black face was a bit softer than the DJ grey face. As Matt suggests it was probably some sort of Surlyn or urethane.

 

When they first started the MySpider idea with all those colors the typical face on THOSE were colored aluminum, NOT the Surlyn/urethane face. I don't recall if you could order the special colors with the Surlyn face but I suppose it's possible.

 

At this moment TM, on the MySpider page has this text "MySpider GTX features a PureRoll² insert crafted from TPU urethane with aluminum beams positioned at a 45° angle for consistent end-over-end roll. Choose from 22 assorted color options and create a design that is unique to you."

 

Sure sounds like the current Spider face insert.

On the website on the my Spider Tour putters states for the insert "3mm aluminum". This is the Canadian website so maybe it's different than US site.
