Jekyll Island Golf Trip

I’ve got a group of 4 of us that want to make a golf trip down to Jekyll island. Don’t know the area too well, so I am hoping to get some help. What courses are the best to play down there? Lodging? Any good stay and play packages? Thanks for any help!

Pine Lakes is a a great track at Jekyll, Indian Mound is pretty decent…I have not played Oleander. There are several hotels there at Jekyll but I have not stayed in them as I live in Savannah and just drive over for the day. Sanctuary Golf Club in nearby Waverly is another great course to play while you’re there. Here is a link:

I was there last year.   I played Oleander which was non-descript.  It was like a local municipal in Michigan.   I played Sea Palms which was nice but very crowded.  It was more expensive than the others.   I played King and Prince which was also nice.    The nicest course I played without a doubt was Sanctuary Golf in Waverly.    The pace and condition of the course was superior to the others I played.   I liked it enough to cancel my other tee times in Jekyll Island and just play there.

I go almost every year for a family outing.  Skipped the last 3 years due to Covid though.  We like that there are 3.5 courses in the same area.  (Indian Mound, Pine Lakes, Oleander, Grand Dunes or Oceanside 9).  Usually a course is booked for a tourney or maintenance.

There used to be few good restaurants years ago - but once they built the convention center, that has improved.

They have been in a process of redoing the golf courses, combining some, etc.  From what I have read, course conditions have degraded quite a bit in the last year or so.

Pine Lakes has normally been the best course (maintenance and layout)

Indian Mound, maybe a bit more wide open but more undulating greens

Oleander, tighter, shorter with not as good maintenance/green conditions...back 9 holds alot of water

Grand Dunes 9 holes is a surprisingly fun layout - especially when the wind is up - a goat track for sure - but fun.

 

You'll find much better courses on St Simons area - but for casual golf, Jekyll is fun - assuming conditions are still Ok.

The bones of an oleander are solid.  Great Dunes is unique if you can get past perfect conditions.
