Ultra-Light Putter heads

As a preface, I love playing around with putters. I have 7 or 8 right now, and some of it is enjoying collecting them, but I mostly do it because I like gaming different putters all the time and trying new things

 

I am personally straightest with a light putter head. The heavier the putter head, the bigger the chance that I hit a pull for some reason. I've had different coaches look at my putter swing, some of them have been able to help, but the moment I'm out on the course, only way the ball is leaving my putt straight on a fast green is a light putter head

 

I got a PING Anser a few weeks ago, because I love the matte black look, and the small compact blade head is something that naturally appeals to me. Worked wonders on slow greens, but went to a competition with a fast green and while distance control was great, the pulls came back and drove me insane 

 

I've basically resorted to Scotty Newport or Newport 2's, with 10g weights so the total head weight is about 303g. I also have a CT Tour Rat coming up, and have ordered that from the restoration service with 10g weights

 

I do struggle on long putts a little bit because of how ultra light the head is, and how hard I have to hit the ball sometimes, but my priority is <2m putts, because that's where I often end up from bunkers, chips and on basically all long putts (if not better). If I'm not holing out a decent % from <2m, I might as well go home 

 

Do you have any other putter recommendations for me to check out? Seems like heavy putters have become the norm. Am I the only nutjob out there still using light putters?

Swing weight is probably more important if you are looking for the feel of a light putter. You can use a modern head and use a heavier grip or a grip that has a weight in it like some of the superstroke grips. 

 

All that being said, for light weight normally older putters are the way to go. They also typically cost less as long as they are not super collectible. For modern putters, a lot of them have weights that can be adjusted as you noted in your post.

I applaud your effort to go and try different setups, even ones that seem to be out of the norm, to find what works best for you and that is all that matters.  I happen to be on the completely opposite end of the spectrum and prefer ultra heavy putter setups but you gotta roll with whatever fits you the best.  Your setup must talk to your "mind's eye" more than it talks to your real eyes in my opinion so do whatever it takes to find your perfect fit.

For sure, so much of this game is about confidence. I consistently perform better with shafts and clubs whose look and feel I like better, and I've been playing with blades since I was like a 12hcp for that very reason. 

 

I was on vacation where I rented a set of improvement irons and man was that round a struggle. I felt like I couldn't get under the ball with a sole that big so I kept getting stupid steep during my swing
