Rushed transition

Recommended Posts

I feel like I keep the same grip pressure throughout the whole swing and make a full/complete backswing. Will probably feel like a little bit of a pause at the top.

When I used to rush my transition, my grip pressure would always get super tight to start the downswing.

My thought is the arms always swing at the same speed pretty much for most shots. The body is what I use to add more distance.

When I practice lately, assuming tempo is my focus, I verbally say "fast, slow, slow, fast" while I'm swinging.

I exaggerate a fast take away, let that momentum kinda of "coast" to the top, let gravity slowly take over as the club begins to fall, and then I "catch" the weight of the club and try to accelerate through impact.

So take away to shaft parallel is as fast as I can control, "fast", then from parallel to the top of my swing is just holding onto the club and not fighting the force I already applied, "slow".  The energy bleeds off and then the club changes direction, I'm just trying to keep it under control trol and not manipulate anything, as it starts to fall down "slow", and then when my hands get to either your waist, or right quad/thigh, THEN you turn, rotate, and GO! "Fast".   Fast, slow, slow, fast!

I get the best effect when I over exaggerate in practice, so mentally I will try to not start "swinging" or applying any force, until my hands get back to my trail thigh aka shaft parallel to ground on the down swing.

Picture a roller coaster, zooming upwards from the bottom, as it begins to reach the top of the peak it's already slowing down, it kind of creeps over the peak, slowly transitions over the hump and then one the final car is over the hump, when the front car is half way down the ramp THEN the speed picks up and goes flying through the low point of the coaster. (Aka where the ball would be)

Another thing to play with is skipping the take away entirely so it doesn't get in the way when just trying to focus on "patience" at the top.  Get to a nice position hold the club "at the top", then from there, the goal is just to let the club fall, and don't "catch" it until as late as you can.  The only force applied to the club is a "guiding" motion, to keep it on a realistic plane.  No pulling, no twisting, no turning, I'm just keeping the shaft in a realistic orientation, letting gravity handle from the top, and then catching the club half way down and trying to add as much speed as I can, in that tiny 1/4 portion of the swing.

Visually cut the swing into 4 pieces.

Address to parallel = 1/4 (fast)

Parallel up to top = 1/4 (slow)

Top down to parallel = 1/4 (slow)

Parallel through the ball = 1/4 (fast)

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
