Long time Tmb716 user , what next

Oldest club in the bag ; tmb 716 2 iron hotmelted , Ad di 105x , tipped 2” 

 

looking for a little stiffer bend profile , possibly back to steel?? (changed to px 7.0 from DGX1’s) 

 

tmag 790? , ping , 

 

any feedback is appreciated

I am a 2 iron guy and I play older blade 2 irons.  Currently have a 660 (miura) with about 20-25g of lead on it.

 

T100s 3 iron is a 2 iron that looks OK standing over it.  Played one a bit and it is nice.  I like this one better than a 2016 or 2018 CB 2 iron that I tried.

 

I am no help on shafts - have always been a fan of x100 with no reason to change.

 

Good luck - as you know, this segment of the market is slim and people who have even hit what they type about are even more slim.

I still haven't found any driving iron better than the original Tour Preferred UDI. Very little offset compared to most of the other offerings and a nice profile down behind the ball.

 

Wanted to try the PXG GEN4 0311 X but have yet to do so. Could be a contender judging by what I've seen. Offset is advertised as 2.5mm which would be even less than the UDI.

I highly recommend the 0311 X. Very little offset compared to everything else.

I'm using a Modus 120 X in my original UDI. I would not change for graphite. 

 

Had a look at the P-770 2 iron and the specs are intriguing. 3mm offset with a 17 degree loft and probably the slimmest top line of the bunch. Bent weak to 18 degrees should reduce the offset slightly if that's a concern. I guess at that point it boils down to if you want a proper driving iron with a wider sole, or more of a regular cavity back long iron.

PX LS would be my suggestion. A touch lighter then your irons but a great shaft for flighting the ball. TMB is still one of the better DI shapes that has been made and I would say P790 would be the closest in sole width and blade length.

Grabbed up a good deal on p790 2 iron rdx 100g shaft 

 

bent to 58* lie and 18* loft , testing to ensue vs tmb ad di 105x

Got a Round and some range time with it, at the moment I am pleased with the the P79 UDI 2 iron ( 2021 i think ) 

 

I flattened it out two degrees , 60 wasn’t working for me.   

 

Deltas btw TMB 716 (with ADI DI 105x ) and P790 UDI (RDX 100g X)  - unfortunately this isn’t a shaft to shaft comparison 

 

The TMB matted with the AD DI hyb shaft is easier to launch , esp off the deck , I have in the past blasted it skyward off the deck on a par 5 for a soft landing.    

 

P790 2 iron , this would be a bit more difficult - not impossible  , the 790 is much easier for me to draw, I think the AD DI profile wasn’t the best set up for me.  790 is much more narrow in dispersion. 

 

Additionally , the stinger shot with the P790 is easier to execute as well, I will be curious to a launch monitor spin, it cut through the Texas wind like a hot knife through butter 

 

P790 absolutely launches lower, and is more difficult off the deck vs the TMB 716.   Tee balls they are relatively the same. 

 

Feel ; very subjective , winner is the TMB 716 and most likely the  copious amount of hot melt in that head.

 

The TMB 716 is the oldest club I have in the bag, I think she’s heading to pasture in the club closet and or a BST near you.
