Changing putter moveable weight - rules question

When does moveable putter weight have to be set

 

1. Before I tee off on the 1st hole

2. Before I take the first stroke with the putter?

FWIW, Rule 4.1a(3) does allow you to move the weight on your putter during the round. But you have to put it back to where it was when you started the round before you using it - just being pedantically complete 🙂

As dave wanted to complicate this let us take it to finish.

 

If there is a movable weight on your putter you have to set it where you want it before you start your round. If the weight is later accidentally removed from that position you are allowed to replace it. But you are NOT allowed to adjust that weight after the round has started if you eg. think it is not where you want it to be.

You can adjust the weight you just can’t make a stroke with that club once you do and the club still counts towards the 14. You can move it and then put it back into its original position and use it or as you pointed out if it moves for another reason you can put it back to its original condition
