15Hcp wanting to get better

Hello guys, I can't afford a pro at the moment but I am eager to get better. I don't know what to work on with my swing right now / what is wrong with it.

 

In the video is my swing from friday (white shirt), and from tonight (black shirt).

 

After friday seeing my swing on video I tried to change my tempo a bit and focus on my right hand staying closer to my body.

 

My misses are kind of all over the place at the moment, sometimes I thin it, sometimes duff it, sometimes pull sometimes hit with too open club face..

 

I would love to find more consistency to have my bad shots not be so bad because they tend to cost me more than average player in my hcp group (from what i've seen).

 

My good shots tend to be dead straight or slight fades. Sometimes I hit babydraws too but the misses with that shot tend to be much worse than with fades.

Its mostly in your takeaway. You start the club way out side the target line, which creates a very flat backswing. This prompts a very over the top move in the downswing because you have no space to bring the club down onto the plane. Work on a one piece takeaway and bringing the hands higher at the top of the backswing. You can work on simply starting the backswi g with a lift and then a turn. See how that concept works for you. You can check your backswing against somekne like Adam Scott, who has a similar build as you.

Yeah hand path and the address position that is contributing to it is the main thing to look at:



These massive changes in direction are all bad. They serve no purpose other than to add variables that need to be compensated for. Every pro no matter how unorthodox their backswing has a fairly smooth hand path that is mostly "up" with very slight horizontal elements, whereas yours is the opposite being mostly horizontal movements with only a little up in the beginning. The initially pushing away of your hands is likely due to you being too crowded at address with that first move out representing a position close to where your hands should be at address. The extreme flattening/deepening at the top meanwhile is putting your hands in a somewhat stuck position that results in you steepening and throwing the club outside your hands coming down which is responsible for most of your contact and direction issues.

There are other things to potentially comment on, but this is the really big one that needs to be addressed first. Give yourself more room at address and swing your hands straight back and feel like you're lifting the club up and throwing over your right shoulder. Then double check on video to see if you're *actually* doing that and feel free to post here is you need another set of eyes.

Already hit some balls and felt like I was getting a more steep backswing.

 

And yeah I have looked up Adam Scott's swing many times and tried to mimick it regarding the backswing with not so great results.

 

That kawamura guy went over my head with his swing 😁
