Dipping My Toe In The Titleist T150 Pool

Approaching my 75th birthday, which is coming in December.  What I noticed over the past few seasons is the gapping in my iron distances have tightened in 5-7 iron.  No doubt that is because my clubhead speed has decreased over time.  I am not short on distance for my age.  My carry distance with an 8 iron is around 145 yards and I hit it relatively high.  I have ordered a T150 5 iron from Titleist with the same shaft installed in my current set, which is the 2021 T100 irons.  If there is a real benefit, I will add the T150 6 iron.

Well, my T150 5 iron arrived, and I have been to the range with it several times.  I compared it with my current 2021 T100 5 iron and hit both irons off a variety of lies.  The specs are identical for the two irons.  Both have the same shaft installed and have the same lie angle.  I hit both irons off similar turf conditions.  Those conditions would be from tight lies to light rough.  

 

At address the T150 looks ever so slightly longer, and the top line is ever so slightly thicker, but neither is off putting.  The cavity on the T150 is also a little deeper.  The T150 went through the turf easily.  I am not a digger.  I take shallow divots.  I had no trouble getting in adjusting to the new iron.

The T150 felt fantastic as does the T100.  The T150 feels a little more stable on slight mishits.  The launch for me was slightly lower and more penetrating with the T150, which I would expect.  The distance appeared to be a few yards longer with the T150, which is also no surprise. 

 

In conclusion, the T150 for me is a subtle improvement over the 2021 T100 I believe.  I think I am going to add the rest of the irons down to the PW in the T150.  They feel that good and I like the extra stability.

Did you ever hit the t200 4 or 5i?  I think you’d be pleased unless the polished look is not for you.

I did not.  I now have 5-9 iron in the T150 with a Vokey SM9 PW.  I really love this set.

Playing i230 right now and have a T150 7i coming.  May go stock set P and Gap, then carry 54 and 58 wedge.

Are the T150's not stronger lofted than the T100.

Yes, about 2 degrees stronger.  Weighting can offset less loft.
