Sloppy hips pt3 - due giving up

Hey all, 

 

been working hard to no avail, still struggle with a big left ball and toe strikes.

 

i have been told to get pressure more left on the downswing but I find this only exaggerates the hook.

 

anything and everything is much appreciated.

Perhaps your stance is a bit too wide which makes the shift back to the left leg a little more challenging.

 

You have a nice swing!

That ball didn't look left at all. Looked like a nice shot from a nice swing.

 

The ball seems way back in your stance to me. I imagine that if I tried to play a ball that far back, I'd either block it a mile right, or -- knowing I'd block it a mile right otherwise -- would shut the face down early and hook it left. You get behind it nicely in the backswing, but there's no real room for you to get to your left side and still stay behind the ball. If you're then swinging at all off your back foot, then I think the ball always wants to go left from there.

The ball that far back in a wide stance is going to shift the path pretty far right and you’re correct, getting more left would be ugly with that setup.

Agree with meloney that ball position is back about 2 balls too far. I also see a slight raising of the upper body in the downswing. You get crowded with the arms. Do you pull with the left arm/hand or push with the right in the downswing?

 

I'd suggest an overexaggeration of lowering your chest toward the ground in transition. Chest down and butt back like that move tiger was doing at the :45 mark of the video below.

Narrow the stance and ball more forward then to help pressure go left and path more neutral?

All things being equal, yes.  It will be some trial and error finding the right setup.

Pretty saucy swing there. Ball up a few inches and play a more staight ball that just falls to the right sometimes.
