Mizuno MX 25 - Hard to beat vintage irons

Having played most of the principal branded irons (Ping, Callaway, Srixon, Wilson, TaylorMade) in the hopes I would find the perfect set I just keep returning to the Mizuno MX 25 irons. For irons that are now 16+ years old they are difficult to beat. I have never mastered the game improvement irons (most recently Wilson D9s). Feels like swinging a Clorox bottle with wide sole.
 

The MX 25s may not produce the distance of newer clubs but my view is “who cares?” I think most of the GIRs lull you into thinking they are producing longer distance for an equivalent numbered club (7 GIR vs 7 forged) but they have stronger lofts.
 

If anyone can recommend a company that refinishes Mizi irons let me know. They will bury me with these LOL.

Ha ha! This is Golf WRX man.  Sixteen year old irons! You’re supposed to buy, sell, or trade 16 sets annually. 
Just kidding; the MX25s are solid. 
I have a friend who still plays Tommy Armour 845s and he’s a good player. Not sure how long grooves last but he seems to be doing okay. 
Play what you like and what works! 
Speaking of grooves, I don’t play in tournaments anymore but I’m not sure if some of those older sets conform ? Or is that in 2024? I don’t remember the rule.

MX-25 have some useful tech. They're the biggest forged heads I've ever seen. So they're "soft" sounding with reasonable misses. A fine iron head that brings a good bit to the table.

No idea about all time greatness, nor Maltby PF or anything like that. But I've enjoyed mine for a long time.

I think like Titleist, almost all of Mizuno's clubs, past and present meet the groove rule. Even my 990's and MP-33's are legal for play.

He's a freaking magician, it's amazing what he can do with welding and tools.

 

I think MX-25 are one of the best "old school" sets available. You can't go wrong with them, especially for a beginner
