Men's Invitational 2-day format -- ideas?

Our Men's Invitational is 5 9 hole matches where each hole is worth a point, and winning the match gets you an extra point (tied match would be 5-5).  Flight winners and the top scoring team that didn't win their flight play in an alternate shot Shootout to determine the overall winner.

Day 1 is 3 matches, Day 2 is 2 matches and the Shootout.

Better ball is the obvious choice and probably the most common. A 2 man scramble is always a good time, but tougher to handicap. Can also do a rotating format setup, Better Ball for a 9, Alternate Shot, Scramble, and Combined. Handicaps can vary for each 9 hole format, and you can have individual format and overall winners.

Good luck and hope you have a nice event!!

I think if you are going away to nice courses you need to be careful of the format. I don't want to pay a hefty green fee then barely play in an ambrose/scramble or nine holes in foursomes.

We just had three days away. We just used stablefords, probably the fairest way. No one wants to play a medal on a grunty resort course. Well not in our group anyway!

So in this case, with differing formats for each day, the two days aren't combined in any way, is that correct? If they are combined, how does that work?

So how does it work when changing formats? How do you combine the outcomes of each format over two days? Just total score?

My buddy who needs help wants to play Stableford one day and a Best Ball the next, however I don't know how you'd combine these two results over the two days since one is stableford and one is a team score.

Most invitationals i’ve seen are 2 man events, so i’m going off of that. And in what i’m describing, yes, add up the total scores from each 9 hole format to get the winning team.

Another option is to rank the teams by order or finish and assign points. 1st place for a 9 hole format gets 10 points, 2nd gets 9 or something like that and down the line. Team with the highest total points for the weekend wins.

For what your buddy is describing, you would almost have to do the stableford as a team event. If you don’t, say the guy who wins the stableford gets paired with the guy who was 2nd, 2nd place can’t win in that scenario.

If you want to do something that has a “weekend champion”, you sort of either have to do all individual or all team. But still a lot of fun options depending on the type of group you have!
