Don't know about fitters, but you could try it yourself without damaging the original putter.  Just glue in an extension and grab a SuperStroke 17"er plus one or two SuperStroke counterweights to try combinations (they come in 25, 50 & 75 gram).  You could also fool around with the removable weights on the X5.  Aftermarket weights range from 5 grams to 40 grams (at least).

That’s exactly what I want to build

It’s ridiculously easy. Got the shaft from a guy in San Diego. Didnt even cut it. I actually pulled the sole plate and put some weight under it after I torched it. I also have a heavier weight in the heel just to bring the toe up a touch. Not sure it really even does that.

They made a dual balanced version of the Futura X5. Check ebay for the original X5 listings. Some won't list the putter as a dual balance, but its engraved on the sole plate

Double check me, but I don't think the 17 inch SS grips have a weight port. Make sure you check before you buy.

There are check plugs you can buy online, even through amazon, that you'd have to install yourself before putting the grip on if you don't have a weight port in the grip.

I'm just a guy, not an expert club builder. Tough to answer that, but I can share my set up if that helps.

The head weighs 400g. Don't quote me on if that also includes the 2 - 15g removable weights. The grip weighs 130g and there is an additional 50g weight plug in the end of the shaft. The total weight is noticeably heavier than a standard putter, but it does feel properly balanced. Meaning the head doesn't feel light or heavy, so you can put a smooth stroke on it.

I tried an after market grip that weighed maybe 70g with a 50g removable weight on the same putter. The head felt heavy when making a putt. The heavier stock grip was a better feel for me personally. Keep in mind, counterbalancing is designed to have the weight above your hands when you're gripping the club. Some people cut down a CB putter and have good results, but I prefer the longer length with the weight above my hands.

Definitely something to think about.

I messed with one CB putter and could achieve the same SW at 37” as I could at 34”. They were two different animals as far as feel was concerned because of “where” the weight was, even though balance was the same.

Plenty of people will argue SW means nothing in the world of putters and especially CB putters. Bull hockey. I’ve got 6 putters and they’ve all been configured and reconfigured 6 ways to Sunday. So far I’ve done over 100 different setups just to see what’s what. I’ve kept track and KNOW where they feel comfortable for me. Really out of shear boredom and I eff with numbers all day anyway.

Something to consider is the point where you measure SW is 14” from the end of the grip. Now when it comes to CB putters, that 14” is meaningless because you have extra grip length. But…if you reference the same pivot point as you did with a standard grip, you will get a meaningful number as a reference. Your hands aren’t going to be in a different position with the longer grip.

Totally agree. If a CB putter isn't balanced well, like any putter tbh, it will affect how the club head releases. The club head releasing during a stroke is super important, to me anyways. When I've hit putters that weren't balanced, I end up pushing or pulling putts, no matter what hosel style. Everytime I've regripped a putter, I try to get a grip that weighs as close as possible to the stock grip to avoid that. You'd be surprised at how 20-30g can make difference.

Is it my imagination or are most CB putters either DB or center shafted? I guess I’m curious if the CB changes the putter arc. I’ve got a DB that’s been kicked out of the bag and might revisit CB with it for giggles.

If I’ve learned anything in golf it’s that whatever you hated 6 months ago might be tomorrows favorite.
