What’s new for 2024?

Chance to own up to your 2024 purchases. What’s new made it in to the bag and also those purchases that just haven’t worked out!

Not much for me - the T150’s are I suppose, still pretty new given how little I have been able to use them. The only new, new thing in my bag though is a U505 3 iron. Not sure how that is going to work out. Suspect that it will be in a rotation with my 1 iron and hybrid, depending on conditions and how good/bad I am playing 😂

Worked out:

-SM10 50F (x100 onyx), 54M and 60M (S400 onyx)

-Srixon ZX MkII U 18* @ 39.5” with Ventus Blue HB 10X

Didn’t work out:

-‘23 p770 3 iron (19.5*) with Axiom 105X @ 39” (gapped perfectly to my 4 iron and I striped it but wanted a hotter/chasing tee club; sole shape was great)

-Srixon ZX Mkii U 18* @ 40” with Ventus Black 9TX (too boardy, bit long; rocket launcher though)

^ also not the only utility irons I had built in the last 6mo! 🥃😅

After determining that I should’ve be in regular flex instead of senior flex everything is new this year. Golf Galaxy did the initial fitting and said senior, PXG and a srixon reps said regular. So here is what I’ve bought in the order I bought them:

PXG gen 6 XF irons, 4-PW (pulled the 4/5 for the hybrids)
Ping G425 max 10.5 driver, 3W and 5W (pulled the 3/5 for the PXG 4/7)

PXG gen 6 XF 4h and 5h

PXG gen 6 XF GW

Cleveland CBX Zipcore 52*

PXG gen 6 XF 4W and 7W

Ping PLD DS72, used but like new - no intention of buying this but foolishly went into GolfHQ last weekend when they had 20% off everything

Because of the sale I also bought a Sun Mountain C130s - also 20% off

Fortunately I have a very loving and supportive wife.

Driver- Bought a G430 10K and a Taylormade Qi LS - the Taylormade won out because I was getting about 10-15 more yards with it. There's no doubt the Ping was more forgiving and I would have probably hit more fairways with it. But I just didn't like looking down at it and since I'm not playing competitively, I kind of have the "I want to play what I want to play" mentality.

Woods- Sold off my Callaway Rogue 3W back in November and haven't gotten a replacement for it yet. Thinking I'll go with the Qi since I'm enjoying the driver so much.

Hybrid- Bought a TSR2 3H last year that I'm very much enjoying and won't be replacing. Might adjust it to play more like a 4H though as I think the gapping will make more sense.

Irons- I got the T150's back in the fall thinking they would stay in my bag for quite a while......... until..... I hit the MP 243's. Long story short, the T150's have been sold and the MP 243's have secured a spot in my bag.

Wedges- Sold my SM9's for the new blue Mizuno T24's cause they're cool as hell and feel great.. and they match the new MP 243's

Putter- There's going to be a showdown between two very different options when the weather warms up... Goodwood G7 Flow Neck (currently at NorCal getting some custom spiral milling done) vs. a 37" LAB DF3 Counterbalanced (blue head, white Accra shaft).

I'm pretty confident I'm just about done tinkering and ready to play some actual outdoor freakin golf!!

2023 was a year of multiple setups across the board. So far 2024 is looking no different...

- Swapped 10.5* G430 Max for 9* TSR2, ostensibly for slightly lower launch/spin & I liked the shape of TSR better

- Tried a 4w / 7w set up last year, back to a 5w / 3h config this year

- Irons went from Zx5/7's -> i230s -> TM rac lt's lol wanted to give retro lofts/heavier shafts a go on the cheap

- Back to 52* / 56* / 60* wedge setup now that PW is 47*

- Learned that hi-toe putters work well for me, so currently dueling my trusty circa 62 no. 2 vs. a macgregor / bobby grace palma ciela for the putter spot
