Why is my club face so open??

A little back story I play off a 13 I took a break due to my newborn daughter. I was playing some of my best golf before her birth. Now my club face is so open. Do I have an inside takeaway that causing my club face to open or is it something else? I also am really trying to implement Monte’s NTC, I got away from

it for a bit which I know was stupid. Any guidance I would be really grateful because I don’t have time to get a lesson currently with the newborn but I have a sim so I can practice.

Your setup looks relatively good other than your weight being a little behind your heals, but your initial takeaway is pretty deep (red line), almost to your butt. Ideally, you would like to see the club head outside of your hands at this position (green line).

This sets you up for and open face/across the line position at the top of your backswing. From there, it’s hard to get back into a flatter swing path in the downswing (green line), hence the steep path into impact (red line).

You don’t have enough room to deliver the club in a manageable position from there, so you stand up to create a little bit of space for your hands to clear, but lose your posture while doing so. It also lessens the space between your body and the handle, exacerbating the problem. Things don’t really get quirky until the down swing though.

I’m guessing there’s some rotational issues due to the delivery and posture as well. If you could manage a more outward takeaway, it could help maintain your (good) posture through the down swing, and give your hands more room to clear (and close) the club face through impact. It’s not really that your club face is deliberately open, it’s that you don’t have room or clearance to finish closing it prior to impact.

For the record, not a professional instructor. Just somebody that’s seen a lot of golf swings. I’ll be interested to hear some additional input.
