What do you think of to avoid the pull/hook?

I stood on 15 tee even par for the day and ended up shooting 75.  I hit pretty much everything left of the target for the last 4 holes.  I really tend to hit pulls/pull hooks towards the end of the round either under pressure or from getting fatigued.  What swing thought or thoughts do you use to decrease the chances of a pull or hook, especially towards the end of the round?

Get the trail elbow feeling like it's leading the club into the ball -- and keep turning.

Maybe this is an over simplification but have you simply tried to think about finishing high with the swing?

Not to be unkind, but I see no advantage in bandaids hoping of prevent bad juju mental happenings...LOL.  You were playing even par golf until something happened in your head.  I say that because I was there years back; only I refer to it as peeing on my toes.  Even though we have bad days, we must want to play our best golf all the time.  LOL 

 

Then there's this salient point of view...  When that type of scoring happens, much of the time the golfer isn't mentally ready to shoot even par, so he gets in his own way of success.  Most people are not honest with themselves about reaching important milestones either, otherwise more would be scratch or low single digit golfers. 

 

Plenty of people think about being scratch or even low single digit until during play they think about having to maintain the game level mentality, or worse, reaching a milestone then falling backwards, and seeing it as failure.  

 

Mind you, I am not attributing the above to the OP, just offering it as food for thought.

I've been struggling with a pull-hook off the tee and those two thoughts definitely help me: head position a little more stable and don't let that trail elbow get stuck behind me at the start of the downswing.

Not trying to not help, but this is a lot like saying “don’t look down when you’re way up high.” Everyone looks down.

 

Find the route cause or tendency for what causes the pull/hook and continue to work on that.

A player at your skill level there is almost a 100% chance the face is too open to the target coming into impact, either from a path too far right or a face too open to the path.

 

Under pressure and fatigue diminishes your ability to time the flip roll.

 

You have to rectify why this is happening or you will just be getting a temporary fix.

Just focus on hitting the shots in front of you and going through the same process as when you were playing well. If you make a big point of being aware of where you're at in relation to par, it's probably not going to make things any easier. Be intent on what you're trying to do with the shot at hand and trust yourself to hit it. Trying to think about "the right thing to think about" is a fool's errand. You are gonna have doubts creep into your head but like all thoughts they will pass. If you are really committed to what you are doing and willing to accept whatever shot happens to come out on that swing, then you've already won no matter where the ball goes. 

 

As for the fatigue, drink more water, get a better night's sleep, and walk/play as many holes as you can. Eventually you will just get used to it.

I don't really think of anything.  If that's what's going on while I'm on the course I'll just go with it and play with it best I can.  It is so hard to try and correct things while you're mid round, and if you're only losing it left then you can play for that.

Alignment is the first place I would look.  Poor alignment can produce massive hooks. It’s easy to get complacent. Good alignment doesn’t necessarily mean the feet have to be dead straight on the target line like railroad tracks. It means that they have to be where they need to be for you to hit the desired ballflight.

As someone who tends to struggle with getting out of left tilt a little early, I usually play the ball a touch more forward and try to come as far over the top as possible and hit the biggest slice I can.  The furthest left path I have seen from myself on a LM is 0.1* left so I know I don't have to worry much about the ball going way right.  It will usually come out straight for me or at worst, a tiny tiny cut.  If your issue is more face related than path, then this could be very bad for you.

Tends to happen to me when I get tired or nervous because my tempo in transition gets quick and I don't give myself enough time to complete my backswing. Ends up shifting my path left and with my normal release (closing face through impact) leads to pulls and pull hooks.
