Dg 120 x100 vs modus 120x

Recommended Posts

anyone have experience playing both dg120x 100 vs modus 120x?   Particularly those with 7 iron swing speeds north of 90 mph?

Just was informed that the shafts I ordered in a new set of irons are back ordered.  I have the options of going with dg 120 x100 or modus 120x.  Unable to demo either shaft in the heads.

What shafts do you typically use in irons? The modus 120 depending on the player is either the best shaft you’ll ever hit or the worst depending if it fits you or not. The dg is pretty old tried and true. If you liked it in the past I assume you’ll like it now

Modus 130x, x100, px 7.0 have all had extended time in my bag over the years.  I can still play them, but looking to move into something lighter as I get older.  (I’ve tried tour v 120, px 6.5, and ctaper 125 and didn’t love any of those, with the ctaper and tour v being the best of that group).  I haven’t tried the 120 version of x100.

they will go into blueprint s heads, which I found to be surprisingly lower spin loft for loft vs some of the other players cbs.

To me the dg120 feels pretty much the same as x100 only lighter. If you can I’d try to find a local store that has Srixon irons if you can since the modus 120 is usually one of their stock shafts. So if you like it or not you should know in 5 balls. The rest of the shafts either are dg or have profiles close to it. The modus is mid soft like the px lz but a lot more stable. Super smooth. But like I said you’ll either love it or hate it. Worth it to try them out In A different head if you can imo but I’m a modus 120 lover

Weight is similar, dg 120x will feel slightly stiffer towards the end of the shaft and modus 120x has a slightly softer feel.  At your speeds dg 120x is more appropriate. If you choose modus 120x I would recommend ordering it hard stepped (putting an 8 iron shaft in a 7 iron head) this increasing the overall flex ~ 1/3 of a flex.

I hit them both today.

The dg120 was the clear winner.  Dispersion was much tighter, a few yards longer carry and more consistent spin.  I also hit the 130 gram x100 after the 120 showdown.  The 120 gram version was almost identical in performance for me with what felt like less effort than the 130.  I actually felt like 130 had more of a snap/kick to it that required some timing.  The 120 had a Ventus black linear feel to it.    YMMV.

thank to all for the input.

I wanted to add that I was fit over the holidays for Modus 120x but the DG Mid 115 x100 felt good to me also. Very similar numbers between the two and I could easily play them with good results.

Dg mid is more of a modus 130 profile but lighter. Modus 120 is a typical “blue” soft mid stiff tip
