Link Forum Account To Main Page Blog Post Comments?

I noticed on the main page the comment section does not have a login, so you would have to create a username every time you wanted to comment.

(Now it looks like comments are gone completely)

What about using our forum member account for the main page blog post comments?

That way, we can all comment, there won't be any spam, and we'll all know who is who.

Also, replies to comments will have notifications so we can reply to each other.

Basically, just like every other blog comment platform on the internet.

Thoughts?

When describing parts of the site it is often helpful to provide links as posters' terminology are often different.

e.g. I don't know what you mean by "main page". I would assume you mean golfwrx.com ? Or somewhere else ?

And since the issue you describe no longer exists on that page, I don't suppose there's any point in trying to "solve" it.

There are 4 basic activities that trigger notifications (there may be others).

Someone quotes a post of yours.

Someone "reacts" to a post of yours.

Someone refers to you by typing the "@" sign and following with your username (start typing the name and possibilities will appear below - then click on that username) Like so @MariahCarry

You "follow" a topic/thread/form (Click "follow" above the first post on any thread)

There may be one or 2 others that I can't think of at the moment.

As for your "replies to comments". I'm assuming here that you mean additional posts to the same threads you're interested in but would not trigger a notification to you.

At the top of every forum page,,,,,,,, hover your mouse over "Activity" or "Activity Streams". That will give you ways to read the board. Mess around with them and see what you get.

And btw, once you click on one of them, you can bookmark the site and, when clicking on your bookmark, that WILL be the way the board comes up. Also, if you hover over "Activity Streams" you will discover you can create your OWN "custom" stream.

Personally I mostly read the board first by "Notifications", then by "Content I Posted In". After all, that is what I'm most likely to want to read. Then comes "Unread".

But as Swayze once said "Opinions vary".

Yes that is correct, the main page with the blog. Forgive me, I thought that was obvious as this is the only page with the blog posts and where you have to create a new username every time to comment.

Coupla thoughts.

The first pic you showed is NOT the "main page" on golfwrx.com. That's why you could no longer find the comments there.

You got there in some other way, no doubt clicking on one of the links on the main page. You can tell from the URL (very tiny at the top of you pic). So you clicked on something to get there.

Thankfully I got to the same page simply by typing in the beginning of the URL, golfwrx.com/733434. The rest of the (same) URL filled in after I hit "Enter"

So I filled out the form twice using the name Fred, once as a post and once as a reply (since that's what your pic showed), and both times it showed up. Fwiw I was signed on as nsxguy at the time but I don't think that's relevant.

OK, so notifications. The "forums" is a software package, included within the URL golfwrx.com. But the forum software is separate from the software running the main page.

I suppose it'd be possible to connect the 2 but I'm betting it's more complex, and expensive, than it may sound and likely not considered worth the $ or effort.

Anyway, your good with the notification info I gave you ?

Linking the front page comments to the forums is an ongoing discussion.

The front page is considered editorial vs the forums are member based.

The moderation required is the point of contention.

Yes, I was referring to notifications in the comments section of the blog posts, as seen in my first reply with the 2 images. It's the second image example.

To clarify, nothing of what I said relates to the forum, my only point was to have your member account (username) be able to comment on the main golfwrx homepage blog posts where there is the comment section at the end of each post. Basically, this is a request that the developers link our forum member account to the comment section on the main homepage so we can comment on those posts.

I thought it was pretty clear what I was referring to. Not sure if you're just pulling my leg here but if you are, you got me 😂

Would it surprise you to know I almost never go to the "main page" ? I spend almost all my time here on the Forums. I didn't even know there were comments on the various articles as I hardly ever went TO those articles.
