Ventus TR Black 6X vs GD VF 6TX

Recommended Posts

Always looking to tinker and get peoples opinions who have played or tried different equipment. Currently in a Ventus TR Black 6x untipped playing 45.25in in Callaway TD.

How does the VF (assuming 6TX would be closest to my TR) compare to the TR black? Doesn't matter if you have real time playing both shafts or just tried them out.

Appreciate the info!

I had both at the same time.  TR Black feels more stout and linear overall.  It has some feel to it whereas the VF is ultra smooth.  TR Black is anti-left whereas the VF is easier to turnover. TR Black has no kick to it whatsoever whereas the there's a slight bend right under the handle for the VF.  TR Black launched about 1-2* lower on average but spin was a wash between the two.  I ultimately have decided to go with the VF because it doesn't take as much work to load especially on those days where my swing is off and it's stable enough for me with great feel with a touch more ball speed.

I’m no shaft expert, but from a quick search on google, I don’t believe these 2 shafts are similar at all.

Profiles: Tip, Mid, Handle

Graphite design VR: Firm+, Medium+, firm

Ventus Black TR: Ultra stiff, stiff, ultra stiff

Id imagine if you like the TR, maybe look into the VF.

I think OP is asking about the VR. Not the VF. Although I agree that if he’s interested in VB, he should be checking out the VF. Much more similar than the VR.

lol it took me a while to research and type mine as well, then I saw you talking about VF and was like “damn it I spent all that time researching and typing about the wrong shaft!”… glad it was you😂

Agreed with the "not similar" comment above. The AD-VR is a WAY softer shaft overall. Even in TX flex you'd likely still notice that the mid section has a lot more play because the Black TR is an extremely stout, linear shaft profile. As mentioned the only equivalent in the GD lineup is the VF and you'd want to go TX flex on that to be close. If you actually want more load/less stoutness then the VF in normal X-flex would be a good place to start.

I appreciate the stability of the TR, and to me I can feel it load. I have only been playing golf for 5 years and come from a hockey background (still play men's league) so comparatively to a hockey stick it loads. That may make my feels a little different than others.

I appreciate the info on going TX for it to be close. Have you had a chance to compare the TR to the VF?

Thanks again for the insight!

Thanks for the info! Seems that the TR is probably what I am looking for then.

Have you played or tried any shafts similar to the TR that you would recommend? I don't dislike the TR at all, just like to play with new things from time to time.

Diamana PD and Accra Tour Z RPG Gold.  PD will have a softer handle compared to TR Black but it's true low/low and while feel is meh to me, there are guys that love it.  RPG Gold is suprisingly smooth and performs very similarly to the TR Black.

Question about this RPG, given I’m in a tr black 6x untipped, would you think a 462/472 M4+ or M5+ would be better to try out if I was so inclined to purchase one?

116-118 on course swing speed, fairly aggressive transition.

Thanks!

M5+.  I'm 118-120 with aggressive transition.
