No Voice Caddy SC4 discussion…?

Voice Caddy did launch a new PLM for under $700 and no discussion about? 
I am using a Flighscope MEVO plus and have not really a reason to watch out but this thing seems interesting.
i am always a bit annoyed outside about the setup of my MEVO and the batteries are not working well anymore so I need to carry a power bank as well.

There was some discussion of it back when it was released, but it's significantly less capable than even an R10 for more money. I can't imagine why anybody would buy one. It might be interesting if they dropped the price to ~$200-250 but otherwise, meh.

Easier set up than the R10, built-in screen, no need for phone, large useable hitting area, etc. None of the sub-2k units are perfect, and none of them read spin properly without special balls. All have their weaknesses.

Without sidespin data, this doesn’t really fit for any kind of simulation / practice driving range.  If they could add sidespin measurement with a GSPro connection, I would probably get one today.

I don't disagree with your assessment but it reminds me of a question I've been wondering about.

 

How does a Trackman properly measure spin and spin axis without dots on the ball? What is special about their sensors compared to these cheaper units, none of which apparently can read sidespin (or can't read it worth a darn).

It's the same method that Flightscope uses; for spin they look for what are called "spin harmonics" in the doppler return and correlate those to a spin magnitude. For the spin axis they use the measured spin magnitude along with all the other measured launch conditions and calculate the deviation from the neutral spin axis flight path and back out the spin axis. Indoors is a bit different; without dots they will try to measure the spin harmonics but if there's not enough flight time to capture the data then they use the same method you see in the Garmin R10 and just use the difference between the VLA/HLA and AoA/ClubPath along with smash factor and ball speed to estimate the spin magnitude and spin axis. That's why sometimes you'll see the italicized spin numbers vs the regular spin numbers. The spin axis is always estimated indoors based on the club data, in reality the spin axis should always be italicized indoors but TM wouldn't want to admit that.

And you can get the exact same functionality from the SC300/SC300i for even cheaper than the R10. The only thing the SC4 adds is horizontal launch angle, simulator integration, and a new form factor. I still stand by that the SC4 is easily the worst buy in the entire launch monitor market...aside from maybe some of the Ernest Sports stuff.

Yeah I don't think the MSRP is correct, it should be like $400 or so.
