Is the course is easier or are most players that much better than the juniors playing in the western junior ?

I'm not there but the course isn't overly long and is a par 69.  I hear the rough is thick and know the greens are very tilted and quick.  Winds picking up in the afternoon.  Scoring average was about 70.9 last year.

 

My kid's WAGR is 326 and he has the 71st best WAGR in the 96-man field. So yeah, it's some very good competition.

Just noticed the other (non-graduating) juniors in the field.  Miles, Blades, Watts, Guan and Colton.  Who ya got coming out of this five (I'm biased)?

Top junior talent is at the NE Am, although Western field is very good.

I am good friends with one of the guys who is at -2. He is a stick. Shot the most nonchalant 65 at his men's club championship a week or two ago. Hit 18 greens, made an eagle and 3 birdies. Can't speak much to the Western Am vs. this event, but this field is loaded. Lots of very high ranking ams and only the very best juniors.

Usually the 2nd best Am field behind the US Am.

Similar to US Am, it seems the bottom half isn’t as strong as the field appears?
 

Perhaps I’m naive but it seems wagr isn’t good at identifying the top players. After all, when half the guys are shooting zero to -6, including many high school kids, how can the bottom half be considered top amateurs/college players ?

Because...golf?  I mean, the guy who shot -13 and won the Sunnehanna shot +4 today. It's a crazy game.

Not everyone has a good round everyday or plays well in every tournament. The winners of the Sunnehana and the Jones Cup are in the bottom half. It looks like they give some local state exemptions, although some of them did very well.
