Grinding a T grind

Currently have a 58.04 T grind that I've weakened to 60, so it's at 6 degrees bounce. I love how close the leading edge gets when it's laid open along with the heel relief. I use it greenside a lot, as well as in the bunkers due to the fairly hard bunkers in the area. My 55.11 S gets most of the work from 40 yards and out. It's weaknesses at least for me are deep rough and fine sand. When I play a course like that, I have a secondhand 58.14 K that's had some heel work done and ground down to around 10 degrees of bounce. I also love the forgiveness of the K.

I'm wondering how the T would play if I had the sole made wider, similar to the K but at a lower bounce? I know I could go wedge works and order the low bounce K with some more heel relief, but thought I'd see if anyone had thoughts what might happen if I had the selected area ground down? Keep in mind my knowledge of grinding is zero.

If you grind down that transition area, something Vokey calls smoothing the grind lines, you won't actually be making the sole any wider. You'll just be lowering the leading edge towards the turf when the wedge is square, but all that trailing edge relief is still there so it would still play the same opened up. The result would be much more like the A grind. It would go through the turf a little smoother and be good in firm conditions, but would still play pretty much the same as the T in deep rough and soft sand (maybe slightly worse).

For what it's worth, if you like the T around the green and in firm bunkers, you may not like the low bounce K. I found the wider sole of the K made it difficult to open up, even on the low bounce version with heel relief. This is where the T shines.

I think your best bet is to stick with a setup that uses different grinds for different courses, rather than try to have an all in one solution.

Appreciate it. I love the T but you've got to be on your game into the grain, especially on uphill pitches/chips. I've also tried the M and L, but the leading edge on the M always looked little too high for me when opened up and the L worked best for square faced shots for me for whatever reason.

If you have good low-point control, the T is a phenomenal wedge. My home course has thick rough and soft, beachy sand. We also have a lot of into the grain, uphill shots around the greens. On paper, it's not a great place for the T, but I learned to play with it there.

I spent time with both the V and the low bounce K, but came back to the T. Like you, I love how low the leading edge sits when it's wide open. Personally, I hate the L. The M is a good middle of the road grind for someone who doesn't have great low-point control.

Yeah like the previous comment has stated it is a grind that just smooths out the ribbon as they call it. It just makes the sole go through a bit faster not having it. More for super firm conditions.

The A grind is essentially the L grind with the ribbon grinded off.

I saw there is an A+ grind which might be the T grind with the ribbon grinded off but not sure on that one.

The V grind is probably the happy medium of the spectrum. Has a bit more forgiveness and leading edge lays pretty flat opened up.
