Does everybody remember the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown. Can you imagine a conversation between Doug Coughlin (Bryan Brown) and Gary Player.

 

Doug - What to drink mate?

 

Player - Scibby over ice, and a twist of peacock.

 

Doug - Scibby, eh. Haven't I seen you before?

 

Player - If you watched the 1961 Masters Tournament, then maybe you have.

It was not too bad the first few times I saw it but evry single break makes me want to kill myself. I don't know which commercial the Golf Channel plays more, that or the Slazenger Raw commercial. "What's that, 220?" :)

I do not always like everything about Gary Player he has always been a bit intense for me. But how can you love golf and disrespect a man with this kind of record.

 

For him to say the more he practiced the luckier he got is the truth. He not only invented working out but has hit more practice balls than any man alive.

Gary player is living proof about what is great about our game. You do not have to be tall , naturally talented , or strong . You do not have to be born a great athlete.

 

All that is required is heart, drive , and determination.

 

You guys are disrespecting one of the greatest players the game has ever seen please stop!

Nope I do not think he invented the four iron.

 

But he won nine majors including all four major championships how many people have done that

As a matter of fact how many people have won nine majors much less all four major championships

 

He has 24 PGA tour wins In addition to his wins on the PGA Tour, Player won more than 100 other tournaments in "regular", that is non-senior golf.

 

now he has nineteen champion tour wins

 

He pretty much invented working out for professional golfers ya think Tiger can thank him for that

 

All this from a man that is 5 foot seven inches and 150 lbs who just plain out worked the competition.

 

All this his career as one of the greatest players of the game that ever lived

 

So he can have a thread on this forum to be disrespected.

 

Not that Gary cares what some of you think but I do Maybe because I love and respect the game so much I can not imagine disrespecting one of its Icons.
