Cleveland Launcher Driving Irons (LDI) Features:

The Cleveland Launcher Driving Irons (LDI) are iron-style hybrids designed to replace those hard-to-hit long irons. What makes these irons so effective and easy to hit is the unique design of the club head's interior. The specially engineered internal weighting system lowers and deepens the center of gravity and increases the Moment of Inertia (MOI) beyond that of standard irons. These improved properties produce a penetrating ball flight with added stability for distance and consistency. The end result is a club that is ultra easy to hit and an excellent choice for tight tee shots and long approach shots.

 

The Cleveland LDI is such a consistently effective club, that when the first prototypes were introduced at the long, tight and unforgiving 2004 PGA Championships, six Tour professionals put them into play immediately.

I just picked up an LDI 24° to replace my 4i. My 20° hybrid looks a lot more like a small wood but I wanted a better transition to the next club. I opted for the LDI because it doesn't appear to have as much offset as the other "iron-style" hybrids and transition fairly well to my irons.

I tried this as a replacement for my 5 wood/ 2iron. I picked a 18* with the Aldila NV 105 reg.

 

Good points:

I found the trajectory fine a good boring flight that stayed out of the wind.

It is solid when you hit it.

Sets up nicely if you like the Iron type hybrid.

Bad points:

I didn't get the confidence I was looking for on the tight holes. As I could not get consistent straight flight with it. It went left too often without much help.

 

It is now in the shed and I have a 19* Titleist 503h in 85NV reg.

Didn't like it. Went left (hook) too much. Trajectory and ball flight is not consistant.

I can hit my 4 iron further than the 18* LDI...

I have one. It's ok off the tee. Not so great off the ground. Mizuno Fli His are better off the ground.
