Wedge question: Sand or Lob

After driving into the trees, :) :cheesy:

 

you pitch out to 80 yards to the pin.

 

 

 

Which do you prefer? 3/4 sand wedge or a full(or almost full) lob wedge.

 

 

Also consider pin placement: front, middle, or back

 

For me I'm more comfortable with the 3/4 56 degree each time. Maybe the lob wedge if the pin were in the center.

 

I kinda of subscribe to pelz wedge theory( no 64 degree lob wedge for me though)

Check in with how many bladed shots and chunks that you hit with your lob wedge per month, then throw it 45 yards helicopter style to the nearest dumpster.

 

How about a 3/5's PW for all of you long hitters...

 

Less loft mo-better...

:) Thats brutal but honest. I think I've been watching TV a lil bit too much and I think I can throw up that 60 LW. Im starting to realize that I need to think with my brain and not sheer muscle.

front pin placement i'm going to hit 3/4 "sand wedge" which is a 53* or 54* depending on wedge, with big follow through. middle of green maybe sand wedge again, maybe 2/3 pitching wedge with a shoulder to waist high finish. back pin definetly 2/3 pitching wedge low finish. land it in the middle and let it roll close.

 

use always want to hit the lob wege, but i've bladed or chuncked it one too many times as well as had it spin back off the green. only use it when i have too.

I actually love my lob wedge. I use it more often than my pitching...I just seem to have more control with it.

Another factor in favor of the sand wedge -- for us older folks who played 25-30 years with a sand wedge -- we are so used to the trajectory of the sand wedge and have feel from hitting tens of thousands of shots over the years that the lob still feels "new" thing.

 

Also, just easier to dial in with that lower trajectory than that sky shot with the lob.

If the pin is in the middle and I can pitch and run it up I'll knock down an 8. If I need it to have it 2 hop and stop 54 degree, and 60 if I need to fly it and stop it or spin it back.

Amen...not a big fan of full lob shots either the sand wedge is my friend!
