fairway shaft for a driver?

this probably wouldn't work but...

i was just on golfsmith.com a few minutes ago and was looking at the graffalloy epic shafts, and saw that the .335 tip fairway shaft is 44" in length. my current driver is an r7 425 tp with a ust v2 stiff shaft and is 44" in length. my question is, theoretically, if i wanted to get the graffalloy shaft, but didn't want to trim it and make it play stiffer than it already is, could i just buy the fairway shaft and install it in my driver? or is the fairway shaft specifically designed for a smaller head, and therefore wouldn't be able to handle the driver head? just curious...

I guess you could do that but why would you want to? Are you trying to get a heavier weight in the Epic? If so, Epic has a tour version that's 81 grams. Otherwise, I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to accomplish.

I called ping to see about getting a heavier shaft in my driver and the rep said that they would just put the fairway wood shaft in there if the legnth would work, so im sure its possible, even common.

well besides the fact that the epic tour is 35 bucks more expensive hahah, but no it was purely a theoretical question from noticing that the fairway shaft is the same length stock as what a lot of people trim their driver shafts too.

Based on the length of the FW shaft it certainly will let you play it in a driver at a maximum length of approximately 45.5" so there's really no reason why ti shouldn't work.
