VS Proto+ For Adams

Did they change the shaft?

I bought an Idea Pro 20* a few months ago and I am currently looking for a 23*. When looking at them in the store, I noticed that all the shafts say Aldila VS Proto+ "Designed for Adams Golf". My 20* just has the regular proto graphics, with no + or adams language. Looking at ebay, I only see a few clubs with the adams graphics and I see a lot without it. My question is, did they change the shaft to some modified version of the VS Proto or is it just new graphics? The shaft is one of the selling points of the club for me, so it is important. I don't want to get into one of those "is OEM shaft X really the same shaft" posts that we are all sick of, but thanks for any help.

You might want to try to email or call Adams. I've emailed them a couple of time lately and they have been very helpful and knowledgeable. Email replies take at least a few days though.

On a side note, how do you like the Proto shaft you have in the Pro 20? I've just re-shafted two Boxers with that shaft and am finding them stiffer than expected.

I find that the hybrid version does play slightly stiffer to flex than the other versions of the Proto, but the shaft in general just fits my swing perfectly. I have it in my 13.5* and 15.5* 906F4, and it is just perfect. I can feel the shaft kick right into the back of the ball on every swing. If it is helpful, my SS with the driver is about 100 and I am a very smooth swinger, so nothing feels particularly stiff to me anyway.

If anyone was curious, the response from Adams: "Thank you for your email and I apologize for the delay in response. For the first 7 or 8 months or so, the shafts in the Idea Pro hybrids did not say “For Adams Golf”. We then changed the shaft to a proprietary for Adams Golf. The only difference is they now have our name on them. They are basically the same shaft and have all of the same characteristics. I hope this helps."

Wonder what "basically" the same means.
