R510tp shaft suggestions

This is my first post, but I want to thank everybody for all the great info I have gained through reading many of the threads.

 

I bought a new r510tp 7.5* this winter. It came with a Mitsu rayon lt-70 S, but i bought it because it was brand new. I've been checking all sorts of shafts to put in this head and am having a hard time deciding on one. Or the first one.

 

I have been to two different launch monitors and my SS averages 123-124. It really doesn't fluctuate much more than a mile or two an hour on either side. I have a slightly faster than average tempo, but without a huge load at the top. Ballspeed in the monitor ranged from the mid 170's to the low-mid 180's. Neither guys who ran the monitors were very observant about the actual numbers. In both cases I came away dissapointed and felt that I was trying to be sold whatever they put in my hands with the highest ball speed numbers.

 

The driver i've been hitting for two plus years is an 8.5 r580 with an Aldila nv-65x shaft. I really have no complaints with this driver as I usually hit a mid/high ball flight that flattens out. I've thought of putting an nv-65x in the r510tp, but thought something else may be better.

 

The shafts I've been thinking about for the r510tp are: fuji reax 65tp, grafalloy blue, fuji 757, vs proto 80, zcom bw65, v2 76, harrison striper tour 70 or 2.5 pro, grafalloy 1027. There are so many and the two launch monitors in the area don't seem to do what I need for this.

 

If you would throw out any suggestions on what shaft you like in this head and some of your swing details or what you think might work in this head for me. I usually like the feeling of tip stiff shafts as I played a Graf. Prolite X before I started hitting the NV. Thanks.

If you like tip stiff and the NV, go for an NV Protopype.

If you like the NV, go with the NV.

 

From experience though, two shafts that compliment this head well are the Grafalloy Blue and the Fuji Speeder 757. You have to bear in mind though that these are two completely different shafts. Your swing speed will designate the flex (which will be X) but the type of swing that you have will determine which shaft will suit you.

 

The 757 is set up for a swinger. If you hit at the ball (which 90% of us do with our driver) then it won't always load properly. The Blue is set up for more of a hitter. Not many people will ever try and hold back on their driver and the Blue gives you the confidence of hitting at it as hard as you want without fear of it going left. It's got the distance benefits of a lightweight shaft but the stability of something 80+ grams.

 

If you get the opportunity, try and use a couple of drivers with these shafts in them (doesn't matter too much about the head). Try and get the feel for how the shaft is loading.

 

Great choice of driver by the way, I've still got one that I go back to every now and then.

Villa, thanks for the recommendations. I have hit the 757 in a r580 and also a TM tp hybrid and really like that shaft. The ball flight was very similar to my r580 with the NV. I've always wanted to try the blue and have been leaning towards that as I haven't seen a resonable 757 on ebay. Thanks again.

Speeder 757 is a great (and was oem) shaft for the R510TP. You might also want to seek out the ShaqX which is a fantastic (if a little "old") option for the R510TP head.

 

My R510TP needs a new shaft as the 757 splintered but I have yet to get a replacement but would never get rid of the club head :clapping:
