Best GPS for Self-mapping?

SkyCaddie in the only GPS which offers my home course pre-mapped. A golfing companion uses a SG3 but is not too happy with it so I would like to look at other options but no other GPS offers my home course pre-mapped.

I have researched and found no reviews comparing the self-mapping features of the GPS units. Has anyone compared this feature between units? Any results to post? Thanks

Check for sonocaddie. I have one and it's super easy to use for maping or adding feautures to an already mapped course. Just press edit and go! there are a few great post on it!

The Golf Guru is easy to use. I mapped my home course with it. It is the only GPS that I know of that in addition to being able to map hazards, layups, etc., you map the actual outline of the green, not just mark stationary points like Front, Center and Back. As a consequence, it takes a little longer to map a courses you have to walk the perimeter of the green, but the end result is well worth it. Oh, one point to mention. Unless you map the green you can't use it on that hole and any subsequent hole. For example, you can't map the holes with all of the greens for 1 through 7, skip 8 and 9 and do the back nine. When you come to hole 8 in a round, that is as far as you will be able to use it. I hope that makes sense.

Golf Guru is the best so far. You can map the shape of the green so if you are off in the rough you get adjusted distances depending on your angle of attack.

 

How worthless is the skycaddie when it comes to self-mapping?

If you are always in the middle of the fairway on your approach shots, by all means pick up the skycaddie and map the missing courses. :clapping:

Another thing about the Golf Guru. I mapped 10 intermediate targets on one par 5, most of them having "To" and "Clear" yardages with no problem. Some have a relatively low limit to the number of "custom points" you can map. I think iGolf Neo let's you map a total of 4 custom points. Some like the SkyCaddie, NO intermediate points. I believe with the GolfLogix you cannot do your own mapping or editing.

I have the iGolf caddie II and it is very easy to map a course of edit individual holes. Besides the green F/C/B, you can have 8 intermediate points per hole.

I just got a Golf Guru on Friday. The little 9 hole course I run off to play on Sunday afternoon wasn't available so I did it myself.

 

Super easy to do and the green outlining feature is tops. Just start mapping and walk the perimiter of the green. Press stop when close to where you started. The green is mapped. Had a few holes that I added landing zones, water, bunkers and lateral hazards. All took without an issue. I played and mapped the first time through then just enjoyed playing the second time through.

 

Don't know if it is related but... shot a 38 on the second time through. Best I have ever done was a 36 with an eagle on #8. The GPS does really help with being confident on club selection, etc.

 

I can't speak to the other GPS units and/or capabilities but I am pleased as punch with the Golf Guru (so far)... :clapping:
