too stiff?

I would say potential contact issues (centerdness and consistency), speed issues, spin issues, and swing issues. A stiffer shaft could be good for you, you never know until you try as you might like it. But if it is too stiff the results could be far off of where you think they could be. Typically speaking.....low and right or way left (over swinging pronounced/excessive over the top action to force the squaring the face) if they are too stiff.

If the shaft is absolutely too stiff, in general, the golfer will see lower trajectory, less distance, possible issues with fading/slicing, and the shaft will feel harsh and/or dead. Often it leads to tempo/timing issues as a person tries to swing hard enough to feel the shaft load and unload.

Taylormade Sim2 10.5° (turned down to 9°) - Tensei White 60 stiff

Ping G400 3 and 5 Woods - Diamana D+ Limited 70 stiff

Ping G400 22° Hybrid - Diamana D+ 90 Stiff

Ping i200 5-UW - Modus Tour 105 stiff

Vokey SM4 54° and 58° - DGS-300

My irons shafts are definitely stiffer than most people would recommend for my swingspeed; however, the only real con I noticed when comparing them with other alternatives was a lower trajectory. Since I usually play in stronger winds I don't find this to be a problem. I personally haven't noticed any loss in distance compared to softer shafts and I prefer the firmer feel.

It's been a while since I was on a monitor with irons, but the last time I was testing drivers it was in the 95-100 range. A controlled swing would be closer to 95 :russian_roulette: .

I've been wondering the same thing. I grew up playing s300 and have been playing various Ping models the past few years with zz65 stiff shafts. The zz65 always felt fine, but sometimes I'd hit jumpers that just flew on me.

I just got some Ping s58 irons that came with x100 shafts (that are also 1/2 inch too long for me). They are noticeably heavier and feel pretty stiff. But I'm hitting a nice trajectory natural draw with them. I still think they might be a tad too stiff and probably a tad too heavy.

I hit my driver about 275 and 5 iron about 185, with a fairly average/smooth tempo and a shallower strike angle. I'm wondering if this is too much shaft or if I should learn to play them. I've only had them out at the range twice so far...
