Is 1 degree upright enough to order custom clubs?

Depends on the extent of the fitting. The grip size should be a combination of a static measurement & what feels good to you, while producing consistent shot shapes. Fwiw, how you take your grip has an influence as well. I.e., deep in the fingers may require a larger grip, whereas more in the lower palm ala Hogan may require a thinner grip, etc.

The 1* lie angle change isn't huge, but definitely worth getting right. keep in mind, you were likely fit for the swing 'you brought that day'. Did the fitter talk about what faults you may already have, and what you are doing to work on them? Did you do the fitting outdoors so you could see the complete ballflight of the shots you hit?

Also, consider that most oem clubs you buy are going to have lie angles that vary at least =/-1* from the spec you order. If you get Pings, you can almost guarantee they will be on the money though. Some say Callaway is good also.

Specs vary so you would have to know the actual club specs (such as a 60* 5 iron, 38 inches long) to custom order.

1* up to someone could be 1* down to another.

1* lie difference on a driver might mean a few feet off line.

1* difference on a 56* wedge shot could mean the difference in a 2 foot putt, versus a 15 foot putt.

Is buying a pair of shoes that is one size too small or one size too big a big deal?

if they just fitted your grip by measuring your hands or something i wouldnt put too much stock in that, i would go to your local golf shop and just put some different grips styles and sizes in your hands and find the one that feels the best

The fitting was done by one of Mizunos custom fitting specialists at a PGA superstore. Not outside but he spent a lot of time with me and we talked about my faults (over the top with a lot of pull-slices). I have hit the same club outside in regular flex and Stiff and seem to slice the stiff a little more - at least with the 6 iron Based on swing speed (83-85 with a 6 iron), I should be a stiff but based on what I have seen, I might be better for regular.

joe-avg,

One shaft's regular, can be another shaft's stiff. Did you get to try different iron shafts that have different profiles? Ie, DGs, Black Golds, Std Rifles, Project Xs, Nippons, FSTs, etc?

1* upright in Mizuno, is std in many manufacturers, not to mention they are about 1/4" shorter than some oem's as well.

MX-25 has Dynalite Gold SL and I have hit stiff and regular in those in a 6i. I have also hit dynamic gold S and R (good shafts), Rifle 5.5 (not for me) and Project X 5.5 and 6.0 (good shafts - I really like the 5.5s). Have never hit Nippon but heard good things about them.

I am a low ball hitter. Mizuno rep told me optimal launch with a 6i is about 20-21 degrees and I was at 18-19 so the high launching shaft in the MX-25 is good for me. Probably explains why I hit the AP-1s so well also.
