Nike Mitsu. Diamana shaft - too soft?

Hi all, I've got a Nike Sumo off the shelf, and recently I've been getting a case of the lefts. I have a stiff flex diamana stock shaft in it. My swing speed is about 95-102. I was thinking of upgrading the shaft and getting fitted, but I wanted to inquire here first.

 

The question - in everyone's experience, is this particular shaft appropriate for my swing speed, or does it play a bit softer than "stiff"?

I've heard and felt it was a bit stiffer than other OEMs, but don't have any numbers or anything so don't quote me.

 

I know I didn't have any huge problems with a R. flex in a Nike SQ 460 and my swing speed is 103-105. I did reshaft it in hopes of better rewards, but didn't really see much.

with all due respect heisagolie, someone playing a regular flex 13 degree driver might not see nearly as much improvement from a shaft upgrade. I also don't believe your SS is 103-105 avg and you aren't having issues with a regular flex OEM diamana.

 

With that said, srockcafe you probably need to step up in flex if you are getting a case of the "lefts." You could get your present shaft "tipped" and it will play a little stiffer. You will see a huge difference in feel from an aftermarket shaft, better quality control and better performance.

 

Almost all these OEM Diamana's have a lower kickpoint and they are softer in the tip section...in order to help amateurs get the ball in the air.

 

I would go get fit, aftermarket shafts are worth the money when they are fit correctly.

I had a chance to hit a Nike driver with an X flex diamana, and personally it did feel a little soft in the tip compaired to the X-flex WB I have in my MP-600. Now this may be caused by how they tip the shafts at the factory....or it could just be the way the shaft plays.

With all due respect I haven't had any noticeable problems with a Regular flex shaft with my SS at 103-105 and that is the truth, proven on a launch monitor. Not a huge increase in launch angle, a little less cut, but nothing I wouldn't noticed on the course.

 

That being said and doing research. The Diamana within the Sumos are very similar to real Diamana, doing very well with SST testing. They're not the same, just made by Mitsubishi with the same graphics.

 

Big difference is the torque level and the longer parallel tip 4*, this is what makes the shaft feel soft. This could be your problem. You could have it pulled and tip it an inch or half inch and reinstall it for less than a new shaft. This would make it play at 44 to 44.5", but it'll be stiffer.

 

Most people on this forum have actually praised the Nike Diamana stock shaft.
