PCS - Professional Clubmakers Society --- GONE???

What happened???

I went to the PCS website today (www.proclubmakers.org) and found a letter saying it was dissolved...is this sudden or has it been progressing to this point? I was on the site last week and it didn't seem to have any problems.

Are these clubfitters going to have a new affiliation now or what?? Anybody have any info???

Whereas, the PROFESSIONAL CLUBMAKERS SOCIETY has unsecured debts in excess of $200,000, and

 

Whereas, the Board of directors has been unable to generate sufficient commitment from the current membership to finance continued operations and reduce current debt, therefore

 

Be it Resolved, that on this date the Board of Directors voted unanimously to terminate all society operations effective immediately, and seek to dissolve the PROFESSIONAL CLUBMAKERS SOCIETY at the earliest practicable time through a process of bankruptcy or other process as may be legally proper and expedient.

The organization has been in financial trouble for several years now - though employee theft and poor management.

 

The straw the broke the camel's back was the lack of renewals from this year, so that cash flow was not enough to address the existing debt.

 

The headquarters building and it's contents are being liquidated now.

 

The Name and the IP will be sold off as well and so the PCS may in fact be resurrected under new ownership in the future - only time will tell.

 

It's a sad day for professional clubmakers and a fine organization with a long history of excellence.

Here's a group that's intending to restart a member driven clubmaking organization. I have set up a discussion forum for the group as my contribution to kicking off a dialog on whether or not this makes sense and what form it would take.

Seems like Professional Clubmakers Society, based in the USA, is going down but Professional Club Fitters Society, which is based in Netherlands, is still active. They both have the same logo. Are they related? Which is a more credible association for clubmaking, fitting and repairs?

There was a fellow in Europe that had made a written proposal to the PCS to start PCS sanctioned training schools in Europe. The then Executive Director of the PCS encouraged this plan but said he would have to get Board of Director approval. The BOD discussed it but reached no agreement. The Executive Director resigned shortly there after. The fellow met with the BOD. At that time the PCS was struggling to stay afloat and this issue became not important and died as far as the BOD was concerned.

 

The fellow went ahead with his European schools and whatever. Some felt he was infringing on PCS Intellectual Property but the PCS had no resources to persue it.

 

He did make an effort to expand into the US after the PCS closed its doors.

 

I am not commenting on the quality of his schools or whatever. I am simply passing along some PCS history as I best remember it.

The PCS - the real PCS - is bankrupt.

 

The group in the Netherlands was never affiliated with the PCS. Should they attempt to start up the PCS in the US using it's trademarked name or trying to represent themselves as an affiliated business, I would think that the creditors and bankrupcy judge for the real PCS would be very interested in this - however I am not a lawyer.
