How do you know what flex is right?

Hi guys
I think I am going to try a set of Nippon NS PRO 950 in a set of X Tours I have coming from a fellow GOLFWRX member. but all the talk on here is that they play less than TT in the regular flex.

I am a Lefty so trying them out is not easy.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am a smooth swing & hit my 6 iron about 160 Yards.

Having just installed Nippon 1050s in my set, I think the "plays soft to flex" stuff you hear on this board is a little misguided. If you're coming from a True Temper R300 or whatever to a Nippon 950, you're losing something like 25-30 grams of shaft weight. Enough that the club will feel slightly lighter which is why I think people incorrectly state it plays soft to flex. I ended up with a Stiff flex, same as I play in everything else. And I tried an X for the same reasons you state - it just wasn't necessary.

 

So bottom line I think is play the same flex you normally play. It just might take a short bit to get used to the lighter feel. They're great shafts though - accuracy and feel are superb! Hope you enjoy them.

There is no way that any two gofers can compare the way a shaft "feels" to them - we all have different swings and what one person feels is always going to be different than what another person feels.

 

The only way to know whether any shaft is right for you is to hit it...

 

Try one. If you like it, reshaft the set. If you don't, your investment is small...

You are exactly right in saying this- lighter steel shafts will always feel too flexible to golfers who prefer heavier weights. These shafts do not play too flexy for golfers who fit the lighter weight.
