NVS in x-flex

Has anyone out there tried the Aldila NVS55 in x-flex. My Mamiya shaft broke this weekend and I want to try an experiment. I have a Krank El Diablo (which is a great head by the way) and I'm thinking I want to try to turn it into a high launching bomber. I tend to go after the ball pretty agressive and SS is not a problem.

Anyone out there tried this shaft?

What is your currently SS? In order to avoid high launch High spin you may want to go a little heavier in the NVS. It is a good launching shaft but the lower weights tend to be a bit spinny.

I only swing at the driver at about 105 and I hit the nvs straight up spinning like crazy and every shot balloons. I would not reccomend this shaft for a high swing speed at all.

Had a 55X(in pinky no less) in my D2, and my Sumo. Quite frankly, both went like sh*t off a hot shovel :rolleyes: quite flat and not as high as I had expected. Swinging at 105 I had no spin issues. At the same time, an 85S works supperbly in both driver and FW's for me.

I built a D2/NVS 85S combo for an assistant to be over at Turnberry last month. No spin issues at all and hes putting it out past 300 with ease. Its got more to do with tempo and how you hit the ball, NOT swing speed.

I have an NVS105x in a hybrid, tipped 3/4" and it is nice. I can go after it and get a nice high trajectory.

If you try it in a 55g shaft, be sure to tip it also. Dont be afraid to go 3/4" or a full inch, as the tip is very soft.

That may be true but I have no trouble with ball flight with a tip stiff shaft. Maybe I swing at it bad. The nvs is a soft tipped shaft designed to launch the ball alot higher. Normally slow swing speeds is what needs this shaft. I maybe an odd ball who knows. You see this shaft stock in alot of drivers that are meant for game improvement.

Not true IMO. I know people that swing slow and launch it high, and I know folk that swing as hard as possible and hit knuckle balls. Its a shaft designed to launch the ball on a higher path. Spin isn't an issue with the right head, weight and flex(tipping and going up a flex for faster swings can help) from my experience having had various players with very different swings play 4 differing profiles(55x, 65S, 65x and 85S) all successfully. They come in weights up to 105g, so don't tell me the NVS is just for slow swingers. Go and ask some fitters, i'm sure alot of them have fit people who swing for houses with some heavier models. Its also a great FW shaft in the 85+ weights.

shafts are probably one of the most misconstrued topics. If we can learn anything from golf club fitting it is that the CLUBHEAD dictates for what skill level, the SWING SPEED and LOADING determines the shaft. I have seen a guy walk off the street and be fit for an X/XX driver. He was the worst ball striker in the world but he can crank a driver. Well that doesnt mean that if he got fit for an NVS or prolaunch blue that its for a bad golfer. Or then we could be window shopping assuming a diamana is for touring pros only since it costs the most.
