Technique vs. Speed

I know that focusing strictly on positions and thinking too much causes power loss. I've been thinking about positions and swinging smooth for awhile now swinging at only around 75%. After how long do you actually lose speed because of not firing your fast twitch muscles to their fullest?

i believe the swing it at 85% or as you say 75% is complete rubbish,

 

i believe the senstation is of swinging at these speeds but the reality is that you are usually within 5% of your max - try it on a radar and this will be confirmed.

 

i found i lost no more than 5 mph when i felt i was really toning the driver down.

 

wouldnt know about losing speed as i wont be doing what you are doing any time soon, FULL POWER!

extemeld nailed it- a very lazy effort is almost never more than 10 mph slower than your playing speed......and when you really give it a rip.....you're only about 3 mph faster than your normal poke. this is not true for all; ocasionally someone comes along with a large 5th gear but it's quite rare.

 

It has to do with the fact that the energy necessary to continue to produce speed is not linear, ie, a 100mph fastball requires about 8 times the energy compared to a little league 50mph fastball...not just twice the amount.

 

Isn't physics frustrating?

There is only one position in the swing that matters - the bottom where the club touches the ball. :rolleyes: ;)
