Well, I had the JavlnFX graphite shafts in stiff put in last week and got them back on Friday last week from Chip Usher.

I have played 2 rounds with them and have hit about another 500 balls into my practice net in the backyard.

Other than my experiment with the e21 Scandium shafts (did not like alot), I have been a graphite player in my irons for the last 4 years or so. The reason is that I have some issues with my left hand (nerve issues plus some carpal tunnel).

IMO, these shafts are the best graphite I have ever hit in an iron. These blow away stock graphite and are among the best for a very reasonable price. These are about the price of the ProLaunch Red shafts and are just a small amount more than the Fujikura e380i shafts.

CONSISTENCY----Very high. These shafts give repeatable distance and accuracy. I haven't had a single unexpected long/short shot or lost one left/right that was not swing related.

ACCURACY---Again, very high. I would rate this as accurate as steel. This is one of the greatest things about these shafts. This makes them worth buying all by itself. These go exactly where your aim/swing takes them. I have had numerous balls go right at the pin where my hopes get high until I see it land 5 yards past the flag or 10 yards short of the flag. I am talking right where you aim and take them. There is no feeling that you can get with some cheap/stock graphite of the club head twisting. I was nervous of having a PW in graphite as I usually get it in steel to help with accuracy. Absolutely no problem with the PW in the Javln. I hit an 80% PW from 115 yards that was tracking right at the fricking pin. Unfortunately, it stopped about 10 feet short of the hole, but wow, the shafts are super accurate.

DISTANCE---Average to slightly above average. Not short, not extra long. My buddy plays scandium shafts and hits his Miura blades what I consider to be long. An 8 iron for him is 160 yards. With my 8 iron, he hit his the exact same distance on a par 3 today as he hit his own 8 iron (he did love the accuracy of them and said they were just as accurate as his own e21 shafts; he believes his scandiums are the most accurate clubs out there and was very surprised to see how accurate he could hit these).

FLIGHT---I would call it a mid ball flight that is piercing. Not high, not low. To me, it is the perfect ball flight. Never had a ballooning ball. Just what I have wanted.

FEEL---They really do have a great SMOOTH feel. Its like a light weight steel without any bad vibrations. They absorb alot of the vibrations so my hand is not bothered at all but they let the feel of the ball on the clubhead come through just fine, if that makes sense. These are light, at the M8 which is around 85 gram weight. I really love the way these feel, not boardy, but not whippy. The best way to describe it is these are the way that graphite shafts in an iron should feel. Easy to swing, give you the feel you want and need, no downside because you are completely still able to feel where the ball hit on the face and how you hit them. My buddy loves the feel so much, he is getting his 3 iron reshafted from the e21 to the Javln already. He hit my 3 iron 2 times on Monday, and then dropped his 3 iron at Chip Ushers on Thursday at his first chance he got to get the shaft changed out.


Plain and simple, these shafts are what I have always wanted my graphite iron shafts to be. Accurate as hell, distance is there with any other shaft, great feel, and a perfect ball flight. I believe that Mitsubishi got it 100% right when they designed these. These are the best graphite in an iron I have hit. (I have not hit the ultra high end Speeder or ProLaunch Platinum iron shafts, but at almost half the cost and with what these shafts deliver, I cannot imagine why I would spend the extra money). I would highly recommend them to any player who wants graphite in their irons, or any player that wants significantly less vibration than steel while yet still retaining all of the accuracy of steel.

Like yourself i have started to notice a whole lot of pain in my left hand whenever i play or practice.

 

I have only turned 25 years old a couple days ago and i fear that i might not be able to play golf much longer unless i quit or make the switch to graphite.

 

Im currently on the search for some graphite options and these are #1 on my list of shafts to ask my clubfitter about.

 

I absolutely love everything about the KB tour 90 gram that im playing, but even with lampkin stingfrees and pro soft inserts i still need more relief.

 

Approximately how much do these shafts cost?

 

What other graphite shafts would you rate highly?

I'll PM you as far as price.

 

As far as other shafts, the only other ones that I considered were the ProLaunch Red, Aldila NV, ProLaunch Platinum, the Fujikura e380i's and the V2s.

 

The ProLaunch Red I have heard but not experienced, can be whippy which I wanted to avoid.

 

The V2s were considered seriously, but I had hit the Javln at the Merchandise Show and was very interested in it as I really liked it then.

 

The Platinum was expensive.

 

The NV can be whippy.

 

I also wanted the most modern technology possible. I really believe that shafts are changing alot as far as technology goes, and I wanted something that I knew would have the most recent technology in it so that narrowed it down to the V2, the Platinum, and the Javln.

 

As said above, the Platinum was pricey, and I just liked the Javln more.

 

 

Graphite should make a HUGE difference as far as the pain goes. To me, it is night and day different. Steel causes pain after 7-10 holes. My graphite irons I can hit upwards of 200 balls and have no problems. You will not regret the switch.

The thought of being able to hit balls without hand pain is really promising.

 

I was scoring in the 70's when i decided that i had to permanently change my swing to be much less handsy.

 

It is just a never ending struggle until i finally starting playing well, my hand pain got in the way.

 

I think i will go with these as my next shaft of choice.

I hit the javlyn in a adams pro idea hyrbid and even though i tried it in a regular flex instead of stiff. The ball flight looked like it was boring without too much spin.

Odd that you didn't place the Aerotech Steelfibers in your list to consider.

I never have considered Aerotech. What can you tell me about them?

I would definitely consider the aerotech shafts.

 

Have also heard good things about GAT shafts.

 

My priorities as far as a graphite shaft are concerned are

 

1. Pain relief

2. Dispersion

3. Feel

 

Length would be an added bonus but isnt something i would factor in.

I never have considered Aerotech. What can you tell me about them?

 

 

Aerotech is a USA based company whose shaft consists of a graphite core and miles of micro-steel braids of steel fiber running around the outside of the graphite core. The website describes the shafts and gives specs. I've also linked you to the articles they have listed. They are generally fairly low torque, lower than steel in the higher weights.

I'd say the feel is between steel and graphite -- not as muted as graphite but very smooth with all the benefits of graphite. Flex to me plays slightly stiffer than normal. A clubmaker can softstep or tip to fit you. I usually take something firmish and play a regular flex in the i95 iron shaft.

 

The i125 wedge shafts are terrific.

 

Scratch Golf uses them as their recommended graphite shaft. Other OEMs are also stocking them.
