Steve's gear showoff

Recommended Posts

OK.. I started this year (my first year of golfing) with a full John Daly starter set from Walmart. $150 for putter, PW-5, 3&4 Hybrid, 3 wood, and driver. Not a bad deal! I replaced the putter with my Yes! before too long, bought a couple of Dunlop wedges, which I quickly pulled from the bag for a pair of Clevelands, and intended to call it good for my first season of playing golf.

Then the crappy shaft on my driver snapped while hitting balls on the range; I bit the bullet and got fitted for a new driver.

After that it ALLLLL went downhill! I got myself the new bag I'd been eyeballing, ditched the hybrids and 3-wood that I could not hit worth ANYTHING and picked up a couple of Adams - which even an octogenarian with palsy could hit long and straight. After that all that was left was to replace the John Daly cavity back irons.

I decided to do something really stupid and get some forged blades. I want to become a good ball striker, and am starting to take lessons this week - I know it is going to be a long frustrating ride and I am going to take a lot of grief from everyone I know and a lot of people I don't, but I hope to stick through it with some good instruction, and come out on the top a MUCH better ball striker! At least I know I can put the forgiving irons back in the bag any time I want a break from the blade beasties. The MP33s were so inexpensive used that even if they make me want to quit the game I don't mind putting them away for a while.

I love my OGIO Ozone. It has a space for EVERYTHING. Pens, tees, glove, balls, scorecard, water bottle (Sigg aluminum made in Switzerland!), etc, etc. and only weighs 4.2 lb empty. Not bad!

Without further ado, my babies!

Honey of a set, especially for your first year golfing...maybe in spite of it being your first year golfing. :black eye: I seriously hope you have the patience of Job with those irons, as they're going to do you no favors for less-than-perfect swings. But you'll know that you deserved each good shot you hit, and you've got one of the best looking sets of irons ever made.

Good luck with your game, and if your first year of ho'ing is any indication, I look forward to many bag updates.

Nice pics, you should be set for a while unless you want to make a change for no reason like some of us club hos. Better watch that catch it seems to have an interest in your driver. :black eye:

Nice bats there, and some nice bullseye marks starting to appear on the irons.

I only found out about using cod liver oil as a grip preservative recently myself. :black eye:

Thanks guys, I absolutely love the Adams boxer hybrid and 3-wood... I have absolute confidence every time I pull them out... especially the 3-wood.

The Tiffany is an awesome putter... I have gotten on with it very well. My last round was 30 putts, and that included a four-putt on one hole (all ones and twos on the other 17).

I just had my first lesson and am hitting the Mp33s great... 8,9, and PW are money clubs and I have stuck a couple of perfect 4-iron shots to make GIR on long par 4's. Long way to go but I think my index is going to be coming down really quickly, as much as I practice.
