My big 4-day/6-round golf trip begins Saturday

I am about to turn 30 and for the first time I am going on my own (sans father) golf trip with my own (sans father's friends) friends. It starts this Saturday and it's 6 rounds in 4 days (wanted to do 8 rounds in 4 days, but I knew we'd regret that in the end). Here's the line-up:

Long Island, NY:
Long Island National
Tallgrass Golf Club
Montauk Downs

South Jersey:
Pine Hill
Twisted Dune
Shore Gate

I'm excited and just wanted to share it. I'm definitely looking forward most to Pine Hill.

Being from Long Island, all I can say is good choices there [don't know Jersey] and good luck. Montauk Downs, for a state park, is really nice. Do you already have tee-times because there are some really nice courses out toward the east end. Let us know how you made out.

i have tee times on everything but Montauk. havent found a good time though the phone system yet so I'm waiting to hopefully grab something near the cancellation deadline on Friday or just show up at 5-6am.

 

so yeah, any suggestions for Montauk tee times or any other courses are greatly appreciated. its not too late to change. but you think Tallgrass and LI National are good choices?

 

We have to watch the budget too, so there were other courses that got dropped due to economics.

well, thats the course i play every week anyway, so thats out. and frankly, im sick of getting my butt kicked.

thats actually good news. i guess i should have said i'm sick of getting my butt kicked by Black. most of the courses on my list are no joke so im not expecting any holidays out there.

Pine hill and twisted dune are fun I give the nod to Pine Hill......

yeah, im all set with the south jersey portion. that's where i'm from originally so i know the scoop. but if anyone has any thoughts on the EAST long island portion, maybe some other courses i should consider, please let me know ASAP. thanks!

The first two are very nice and the fees aren't too bad - under $100 the last time that I played them anyway - with cart. Spring Lake is pretty nice also. Greens are large so reaching a green in regulation might not mean anything. I, personally, haven't played Cherry Creek but friends have and they liked it but I know nothing about the cost. I think that Thursday's edition of Newsday has some coupons in it in the sports section - every Thursday edition.

Wind Watch used to be pretty nice, but I haven't played it in over ten years. It might be worth checking out, though.

the trip was incredible. South Jersey blew Long Island away, but that was to be expected.

 

Long Island National was nice, but not worth the money, especially compared to SJ.

Tallgrass was a great value, not crowded, and the manager asked us multiple times how we thought everything was. a very nice experience.

Montauk Downs was worth every NYS resident penny. it's like a little Bethpage Black. that style of course is not my favorite, but the greens were impeccable.

 

Shore Gate was great, greens were a little bumpy but a beautiful layout. tons of sand and a little pricey, but thats to be expected due to the amount of high-end daily fee courses in SJ.

Twisted Dune I've played before, but it was my favorite of the trip. I just love the holes being sunk in between the huge dunes, i'm definitely becoming a links course convert.

Pine Hill was the grand finale. free range access and yardage books, all the perks of a private club. absolutely cannot beat playing a course with that type of elevation. was not in the best of shape, and i found the layout to be a little bland, but all in all, a wonderful experience.

any course is hard if the wind is howling, bethpage is one of the top 15 most difficult in america
