Help me pick out my 905T

Now that the 905T has been reduced dramatically in price & me being in the market for a new driver, I'm seriously considering picking up one while in Myrtle Beach in about 3 weeks (where the options are many for a lefty as far as equipment goes). I know what loft I am planning on going with (10.5*), but not sure on what shaft would work the best for me. What is your opinion based on my swing/ball launch characteristics on the following shafts: Grafalloy Blue, T-Speeder, Aldila NV or GDI YS-6.

More of a hitter than a swinger, quick tempo on my downswing, current ballflight is medium, average SS is around 105, give or take a few. I want to raise my ballflight, or keep it close to where it is now, but don't want to lower it. Current driver is a Cleveland Launcher 460 with a Grafalloy Blue ProLaunch (S). I'd love to demo, but the opportunity to demo is limited for southpaws, as I am sure other fellow lefties will attest to.

I figured there would be individuals on this board that would give me a more honest answer than the average Joe who works in a golf shop who "supposedly" knows equipment. :cheesy: All replies appreciated.

Hi Lefty,

It's really difficult to fit someone without seeing you in action. I will say that I sell a ton of Titleist drivers and for hitters have had a lot of success in putting people into both the Titleist Speeder and the NV in 75 or 85 grams. That being said, please try to find a Titleist fitter in yopur area that can either watch you hit some balls, or at the least give you a couple demos to take to the range. I think the 905T is a great driver, and you can find some deals now, but if it doesn't fit you, you won't be happy even though you saved a few bucks.

Good Luck,

Kevin

Lefty,

I've owned a couple 905T's now. A 9.5º with Titleist Speeder stiff (which I hit too low,) and currently a 10.5º with YS-6+ stiff. My SS is 108MPH for reference, pretty smooth tempo. I'm not a high ball hitter.

The YS-6+ is definitely a better fit for me with the added loft of the 10.5º head. The YS-6+ shaft feels soft, but in a good way. I don't feel like I'm going to overpower it at all in the stiff flex. It keeps up with my swing and feels really silky smooth actually, with a perceivable bit of "kick" through the impact area. As far as Titleist's shaft offerings that will help to RAISE the launch angle, the YS-6+ and Aldila NVS are both mid-kp shafts, and the rest of Titleist's stock offerings are higher kickpoint shafts that help to keep the flight down. Grafalloy Blue is a pretty stout shaft, as is the Aldila NV (green.) THe Titleist Speeder wasn't bad, but I probably would have needed the 10.5º or even 11.5º head to make it work for me, because of it's higher kickpoint. I have a Cleveland Launcher Comp 10.5º with the Prolaunch 65 stiff also, and the 905T 10.5º with the YS-6+ stiff launches on close to the same trajectory as the Cleveland. Perhaps not quite as high, but close. The Prolaunch hits it higher than anything Ive tried.

So try to demo, but the YS-6+ and Aldila NVS (orange) are the shafts that Titleist offers that are going to launch the highest. I think you can special order the Prolaunch shaft in a 905T, but that would mean full price of course. Don't be afraid to try the 11.5º head. The 905T and 905S are low-spinning heads, so you can hit more loft and not have them balloon on you.

If you are going to buy the driver in Myrtle Beach, go to Martins Golf and Tennis near Broadway at the beach. They have a launch moniter and can fit you to whatever driver you like. If you dont buy a club, it cost 25 to just do the fitting session or it is waived if you purchase a club. The other good thing they have going is that they have a 30- day money back guarantee. I had a friend go to the beach this weekend and he was going to purchase one of the Cleveland driver they had marked down. He was going to buy a 9.5 but after putting him on the launch moniter, they went with a 10.5 with a Prolaunch X. He killed it all weekend. I am thinking about going down and giving it a try. Hope this helps. Are you playing in Myrtle Beach? IF so where?
